A handy election-eve reminder of what progressives do.
Those six extra Madison police officers proposed by the Mayor’s 2023 annual budget? They may get axed Monday evening at 4:30 p.m. 10-31-22 by the Finance Committee. Common Council President Keith Furman is apparently leading the charge to defund the police budget.
“Monday night will be a long night for me,” Police Chief Shon Barnes told a group of citizens over coffee today on the West side. “I’ve never seen a community not want community engagement.”
UPDATE: $175,000 federal COPS grant for Madison Police survives Ald. Keith Furman, the only no vote on the Finance Committee tonight. And he is the Common Council president! Even far-left Ald. Jael Currie, his vice president, voted in favor of the grant. It would award the Madison Community Policing Foundation, Inc. to set up citizen advisory boards in each of Madison’s police districts.
Ironically, more police outreach into the community was recommended in the OIR report commissioned after the shooting death of Tony T. Robinson in 2015. (We discussed that here.) Just last year, in the wake of the George Floyd riots, the University of Pennsylvania Law School Quattrone Center (for the fair administration of justice) made the same recommendation. Remember that the next time your alder says We Need More Studies!
This is a city council that is still trying to ban tear gas. It created a Police Civilian Oversight Board that, after two years, can’t find anyone to take our $125,000 annually to be its executive director. Its only accomplishment to date: determine their pronouns.

→ Officers responded to West High School at noon 10-27-22 where several suspects battered the victim and stole his backpack. Search of their vehicle found marijuana, fake IDs, fake currency, and a spent shell casing. Investigation continuing.

Ironically, even with the federal COPS grants, the mayor’s budget awards police the smallest percentage increase (1.4%) in a budget that increases spending by 6% — the most in 14 years. Her budget does make room for $1,000 checks to every city employee!
Two new Madison police grants
• $175,000 to expand existing mental health and wellness programs, creating a wellness coordinator.
• Create a community policing advisory board in each of Madison’s six police districts, also for $175,000.

What’s really surprising is that the Madison area Democrats, you know the pompous intellectuals and the Democrat sheeple, will vote for a blathering parrot and as long as it has a (D) after the name and then they blindly support anything the blathering parrots propose while in office. First: I don’t care one bit who you vote for or if you vote at all.
Second: Your argument is illogical. If you can research candidates yourself then you should be able to research all the candidates and make up your own mind regardless of who our guy happens to be. So since you claim to be able to do your own research, then do it and shut up.

2) Form committee to determine “root cause” of impact.

Although this plan achieves the goal of “Equity”, it is ultimately “Non-Sustainable.

Defund the police just as Madison is taking over a big piece of The Town of Madison. Maybe they can hire more social workers to find the “Root Causes” of crime like VP Kamala Harris did with illegal immigration. MMSD replaced the police in schools with social workers and see how that has turned out. At least the City is saving $125,000 by not being able to find anyone that wants the Executive Director of the Civilian Police Oversight Board.

Can anyone name a single example of a brainless Madison lefty, no matter how destructive and dangerous, getting kicked out of office and replaced by a ‘moderate’ (never mind a conservative)? It hasn’t happened before and it won’t happen on Nov. 8th. There is simply no limit to what the brainwashed sheep who elect and re-elect these fanatical ideologues will put up with.

Common Council President Keith Furman is an idiot. What does he expect to happen when he votes to defund the police? Does he expect the bad guys to lay down their weapons and make crime no more? Does he expect there be peace in the valley and good will among man?

There will not be peace!
The more police officers you remove from our streets, the more crime you will experience.
We have already tried that with the catch and release program that we currently have with most violent offenders in the state of Wisconsin.
And how has that been working out for we the commoners?

I predict that the good citizens of this state will resort to citizen justice. A rope around a tree limb and a noose around a neck will suffice for the justice that is lacking in a civil society.
Sad, so sad that we will devolve into a hanging culture that hangs first and asks questions later.
Sadly, the first people, and I do mean people, that will swing in the wind will be black people. Racism will run amok as fear will drive people to do things that they would otherwise never consider.
