and Mandela Barnes is tough on endorsements!
Yikes! Forgot that September 14 was our 48th wedding anniversary! I blame sudden-onset senility compounded by the week your congenial host wore a coronavirus face mask in April 2020. To make up for it, presented the Lovely Lisa a patio end table on which to place her afternoon sauvignon blanc. Because I missed #48, the gift covers our 49th anniversary! That puts the Squire ahead of the game!
By serendipity alone, made the lovely trek out to the Stoneman Farm on Syene Road, Fitchburg, for their Sweet Corn of the Gods! Turned out Friday 09-16-22 was their last day of the season! Loaded up with three bags @ $9 each. On the way up to the farmstead via their winding driveway, saw a flock of wild turkeys traversing the hillside pasture, dotted with mature oak trees. The Scottish Highland longhorn cattle were congregated under a stand of trees on another delightful, early autumn (not officially) Wisconsin morn!
Defund ICE Democrat poses as tough on crime
Stop those damn pictures, Boss Tweed once said of Thomas Nast’s muckraking cartoons. U.S. Senate candidate Mandela Barnes is trying to live down that photograph of him gleefully modeling a T-shirt that reads “Abolish ICE” (for Immigration and Customs Enforcement). So Tony Evers’ Number Two ballyhoos an outpouring of support from Wisconsin law enforcement. If you can call nine names an “outpouring.” More like a trickle. Only two of which are active duty. The remainder, retired. And not one sheriff.
One of the former cops is Gloria Reyes, who voted to expel cops from Madison’s public schools when she presided over the school board and now wants to run for mayor!
Blaska’s Bottom Line Truism #49: Don’t play in your opponent’s sand box! The lesser Mandela is replaying Mike Dukakis in an Army tank.
Martha’s Vineyard is lovely in the off season
Ari Melber and his guests on MSNBC were in high dudgeon that Gov. DeSantis is sending illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard and Kamala Harris’ doorstep in D.C. That is how you change the narrative!
President Barack Obama has a home on Martha’s Vineyard, while Ms. Harris said as recently as Sunday that the border is “secure” when everyone knows it isn’t. The GOP point was … to showcase the hypocrisy of Democrats who run “sanctuary cities” without bearing the costs of migration, and the Governors have certainly done that.— the Wall Street Journal
NPR is trying to make the case that the governor was guilty of human trafficking. Really! Actually found an “expert” to confirm its predilection, although she admitted trafficking requires a profit motive. Surprisingly, the New York Times gives DeSantis’ “stunt” some credence.
Our immigration system has long been overburdened and outdated, and the asylum process is a big part of what’s not working. … In 2010, there was a backlog of about 100,000 asylum cases pending. Today, that number has swelled to more than 660,000. When other kinds of cases, such as deportation orders, are included, the backlog in immigration courts climbs to over 1.8 million.
The numbers reflect a recent spike in migration. Over the past two years, about a million people have been allowed into the country to await hearings in immigration court. …Although asylum hearings are supposed to be held within 45 days of an application being filed, the current wait time for an asylum hearing averages nearly 4½ years.— New York Times
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Few were more apoplectic than The Atlantic which condemned “Ron DeSantis’s idiotic and cruel attempt to dump human beings on the island during the off-season.” A real mensch would have deposited the illegals in the high season, one supposes.
