Cancel culture claims Madison alder

No apology will suffice!

Madison’s cancel culture has done it again. They’ve forced out a politically moderate alder — not by persuasion but by their usual methodology: harassment and intimidation.

Ald. Gary Halverson from the far NE side is quitting after he got doxxed by a national left-wing organization which revealed that, for a grand total of two months, he had claimed membership in the Oath Keepers.

Gary Halverson

Halverson’s reported explanation that he did not fully vet the Oath Keepers is credible: ““I thought I joined an organization that welcomed veterans who cared about our democracy,” he said in an email on Sept. 7. “I was misled and I terminated the membership two months later in August 2020.”

Say you are a military veteran who comes across the following description. Can you pretend you could parse out that they might be violent?

We Believe in Honoring Our Constitutional Oath!

The Utah OathKeepers are a group of proud patriots, dedicated to upholding the Constitution of the United States. Our members have a long history of service to the United States as military, law enforcement and first responder professionals, and continue to serve through OathKeepers programs and service missions.”

Ald. Keith Furman (a piece of work if we’ve ever seen one) and social justice warrior Jael Currie — president and vice president of the Common Council, respectively — gave their official imprimatur to their colleague’s outing from civil society.

“Statements and comments from other elected officials referring to me as a white supremacist or associating me with it are abhorrent, extremely offensive, and possibly defamatory,” Halverson complained. Thereupon his residence was vandalized and his wife, traumatized.

Halverson joins Fredric March and Ald. Paul Skidmore in the progressives' growing list of non-persons who strayed from 100% political correctness.

Former mayor Dave (the Apostate) recalls that, after Jacob Blake’s shooting, Madison Ald. “Mad” Max Prestigiacomo encouraged his followers to go to Kenosha and “F*** things up!

Nobody on the Council called for his resignation and he never apologized,” former mayor Dave recounts.

Which reminds us that Isthmus reports Gloria Reyes is considering running for mayor. She, too, was mau maued at her home, where her children sleep, by social justice warriors demanding police be expelled from our four major public high schools. She caved, school resource police officers were thrown out.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: The Oath Keepers are rightly despised for their violent insurrection on January 6, 2021, at the nation’s Capitol — of which Ald. Halverson took no part and denounces, unequivocally. So how does the Left answer? With violence. These people are missing the irony genome.

Who will stand up to the thought police?

I learned long ago that being a member of any organization is a bad idea because no matter how benign it may seem to be today you cannot control how that organization changes tomorrow and how those changes might directly or indirectly affect you. I choose not to be a “member” of any organization and that includes political parties. I only have one exception to that and that is a church of my choice and I have stood up and walked out of churches and completely disassociate myself with some when they start professing political views, I simply will not tolerate it in that part of my life.

Halverson is lucky he wasn’t beheaded after his former associates staged the most violent, bloody insurrection since ….. well I’m not sure. He should be made to visit the grave of AOC every January 6 and think about what he did. Next time just beat the hell out of a gay legislator pal!

With certain exceptions, I believe that you have the right to say anything you want and I will certainly defend to the death your right to say it.

The exceptions would be to advocate for harming others who are innocent, to destroy public or private property without cause and so on. Actions that would separate you from a civil society.

Sometimes we will all just have to agree to disagree.

Once we can no longer do so, in my opinion, we no longer live in a Liberal Society, we live in a Fascist one.

Furman and Currie’s statements and comments concerning Alder Halverson are just the name calling and race baiting at which Furman and Currie excel. Ginning up their lap dogs to intimidate Halverson and his family are things to be expected of despicable people like Furman and Currie.

Cancel culture totalitarians Furman and Currie are the alders that should resign.

How does one go about seeking an indulgence here.

To please not lump together woke-amoks with “progressives.”

That’s like saying all Republicans are Trumpites.

What happened to him was wrong on many levels. But; this fake pearl clutching about it is laughable. Cancel culture? Talk to Cheney, election officials, library workers , nurses, doctors etc etc. Now that you all have had your daily dose of lefty bashing how about coming up with a way to fix it. Johnson said the left should be “shoved out” of churches; maybe more people going to church would help.

Fake? I know it’s darn near impossible for an internet troll like yourself to realize this after you’ve had your noon time boilermakers down at Green Gables; but, your “arguments” literally contradict themself and you sound like a babbling fool.

The only way to “fix” brainwashed cults in a short time span is with intense deprograming, otherwise long term deprogramming has to be done over time with strict social ostracizing and condemnation of their behaviors by everyone within the civil society. The problem we have with the long term solution is that the political left seems to be looking at these cultish immoral behaviors as fitting within their ends justifies the means core tactics so they simply zip up their condemnations as long as it’s not in their immediate back yard.

There’s the solutions, how about you use that 6th grade education of yours and figure out how to implement the solutions in between naps.

  8. Gary L. Kriewald says:

Halverson’s plight reminds me of the postmortem cancellation performed on Porter Butts and Fredric March a couple of years ago. The underlying premise is that ONE misdeed (as defined by the left, of course) negates every other deed, no matter how noble or just innocuous one does over the course of an entire lifetime. The other premise is that those sitting in judgment on the evildoers are morally blameless in every way and therefore perfectly justified in whatever sentence they see fit to pass. It’s amazing how Madison progressives can’t tolerate a single voice of dissent–which says something about the inherent fragility of their belief system.

I know it’s easy to say this from the safety of the sidelines, but I wish Mr. Halverson had fought back. I suspect that the cowards who succeeded in cancelling him would have caved sooner than he might have expected.

    In response to Steve,

I and all of my progressive acquaintances are appalled by what was done to Mr. Halverson.

Mr. Furman, on the other hand, lives in a McMansion on the lake in imperial splendor. I don’t number him as a progressive.

Too many very wealthy elites are jumping on to the wholly counterproductive so-called “anti racist” bandwagon in order to pose as progressives without, apparently, doing any thinking about how stupid, ridiculous and dangerous they have become — yes much like a mirror image in reverse of Mr. Trump — and adding voice to setting back the cause of racial justice by a decade.

I don’t lump Dave in with Trumpites, and all I’m asking here is some reciprocity.

      I’m not buying it Peter.

I’ve seen and heard this so many times that it becomes an obvious pattern, you present virtue signaling complaints about things like this and then when people go to the polls in Madison area they vote for anything that has a (D) and doesn’t have an (R) after the name whether they’re delusional social justice warriors or not, it’s pure political party bigotry and the sane people in the local party won’t kick the riffraff lunatics to the curb. This kind of virtue signaling is futile blathering’s when voters literally continue to vote for the fools that pull this crap. The Dane county Democratic Party, progressives and Liberals are all enabling the delusional social justice warriors and cancel culture – they need to own it and do something about it because I’m not cleaning up the sh!t in their back yard.

Forgive me if I completely missed something in your comment; but, I don’t think you provided any real evidence showing us that these woke-amoks are not progressives by showing us that they are something else.

Sorry but the “you” in that sentence should have been changed to “progressives” to accurately reflect intent, it wasn’t solely directed at you Peter because I honestly don’t know if you’re a progressive or not.

  10. By the way; I’m seriously wondering if Gary Halverson thought he was joining Promise Keepers which is a vastly, VASTLY different kind of organization than Oath Keepers. I actually know people that were long term members of Promise Keepers and canceled their affiliation with the group thinking it had somehow morphed. It’s not too hard to understand how people might think that Promise = Oath; therefore, Promise Keepers = Oath Keepers.
