Wisconsin does appears safe from nominating a full-out nut job like Eric Greitens in Missouri. The misogynist candidate for U.S. Senate cut a campaign ad depicting an armed raid on the home of a supposed RINO — those being defined as Republicans who believe Trump did more than throw his plate of spaghetti on the wall. (As Oscar Madison told Felix Ungar, “Now it’s garbage.”)
Scarred by Uvalde TX and trying to blame the insurrection of January 6, 2021 on Nancy Pelosi, Greitens’ appeal to hate and division won’t work even in red-state Missouri and sure as hell won’t sell moderates in battleground Wisconsin. Timothy Ramthun, the most full-on Always Trumper seeking the Republican endorsement for Wisconsin governor, is running a distant fourth.
Not that the others didn’t seek Trump’s endorsement. Tim Michels came away with the prize and now must live with that white elephant. As Sen. Ron Johnson points out, Trump lost Wisconsin by 22,000 votes when 55,000 Republican voters left the presidential ballot line blank. If he turned off that many voters in November 2020 …
Trump is not the issue
The gray lab coats at the Werkes say the big state issues are crime, Woke schools, the economy, and abortion. Abortion IS on the ballot — as it should be. The victor will come down to who is perceived is the least crazy. (That the Wisconsin ban dates to 1849 — before the Republican party was even founded — validates Justice Alito’s observation that the Constitution never guaranteed abortion.)
It’s early, but the issue is crazing Democrats. Their leading candidate for Senate and backed by A.O.C., Mandela Barnes, says he supports placing term limits on U.S. Supreme Court justices and would consider packing the court. A tacit admission that Barnes despairs of ever convincing a majority of Americans.
Wisconsin is in the middle — or muddle — on the issue. Only 27% of respondents told the Marquette Law School poll that abortion should be legal in all cases. On the flip side, only 11% say it should be illegal in all cases — 24% in most cases. Which seems like adopting a ban after 15 weeks might be a reasonable compromise — not that any Republicans candidates are saying so.
Putting Tony Evers on the spot
Wisconsin Republicans are, nonetheless, playing it smart. In the Assembly, 38 Republicans are asking Democrat Gov. Tony Evers to allocate $10 million for pregnancy resource centers. It’s not only good politics — it’s the moral thing to do.
“Pro-life is far more than just pro-birth,” says State. Rep. Barbara Dittrich of Oconomowoc. “These pregnancy resource centers do a phenomenal job of helping women who find themselves with an unexpected pregnancy.” The Republican letter argues:
Pregnancy resource centers help women navigate through a pregnancy, whether it’s through medical services, bettering their economic circumstances, pregnancy/parental support, or adoption assistance, rather than resorting to killing their child. If a woman isn’t ready to be a mother or thinks she can’t afford a child, there are other options without ending a life.
Try getting that from Planned Parenthood!
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Republicans will want to paint Democrats as taxpayer-funded abortion up to the delivery room. A.O.C. is helping; she wants abortion clinics at the entrances to federal land. “Baby steps,” she says, ignorant of the irony.

There you have it in a nutshell folks, the Democrat’s ability to think critically.
First they start with what they think is an insulting statement (assumption) about a non-woke someone that they hate, then they associate that “evil” someone with another non-woke evil someone that they hate and insult them both as a perceived group, and then they extrapolate their hateful insults to complete absurdity until they come up with an absurd conclusion that’s based on pure partisan hate and assumptions.
Where does this kind of non-logical and hateful thinking start, it starts with what appears to be the Democrat’s four tenants of “truth”…

3. Wrong is evil.
4. Evil must to be destroyed.

Me MAGA? Hardly. As for gulled, you have me confused with those who voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020.
It’s great you’ve come around to appreciating Trump for what he is. It was refreshing to watch a MAGA guy shelve his tribal stripes when the facts became so overwhelming.
I want Trump to run for the same reason you don’t. It’d likely be disaster for the Republican party. But unfortunately, more Trump bullshit may be the only thing that can save our democracy.

Not that Democrats would dream of doing such a thing if they were in a position to. I delight in imagining all those Madison-based environmentalists seething over the DNR board’s conservative majority. The same people who wouldn’t dream of setting foot in northern Wisconsin where all those “endangered” wolves live since that’s also where Trump voters live (and besides, you probably can’t get a decent Chardonnay there). But at least they’ve got “Save Wisconsin’s Wolves” stickers plastered on their Volvos–that’ll do it.

I think it all comes down to a candidate reminding people what the real issue with abortion is and was. Abortion was never mentioned in the Constitution. The right to privacy, which the left used to include abortion, was never mentioned in the Constitution.
Even Ruth Bader Ginsburg called the Roe decision bad law. Here is only one quote from her about this case: When the Supreme Court decided Roe v. Wade in 1973, the “law was changing. Women were lobbying around that issue. The Supreme Court stopped all that by deeming every law – even the most liberal – as unconstitutional. That seemed to me not the way the courts generally work.”

Abortion is not just about the killing of an unborn child. It is about the rule of law.
If you want abortion on demand, or in any form, then amend the Constitution. Otherwise it is a question left to the people in each state to decide through their representative process as the 10th Amendment which clearly states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.”
As for me, I call it what it is: A form of ritual sacrifice to Satan.

It’s completely ABSURD for people to be marching in the streets protesting for the right to physically exterminate a helpless human being because it’s “unwanted”, you should have thought about the consequences of your actions, or lack thereof, when you were shirking your responsibilities regarding sex.

re: responsibilities, I take a more realistic approach: the female should always assume her partner will bear 0% of the burden of having the child. It’s not pretty but that is the world we live in, especially in the poor black community – look at the data.
The use of long acting reversible contraceptives can stop this pattern. The government should provide them free of charge and they should be highly encouraged. And no it’s not eugenics …. it’s reversible.

I predict that there will be more states that put severe restrictions on abortions and I hope Wisconsin is one of those states. I also hope that any state that passes a law that has restrictions on abortions will get sued by pro abortion advocates and eventually end up in the Supreme Court of the Unites States.
Lastly; I hope that there will be a well thought out medical/legal definition developed in the next few years defining when in the development of an unborn human being that that unborn is definable as a human being thus effectively closing the book on abortions after that point in time time due to the human right to life.

Thanks to Mr. Blaska for floating the idea of a reasonable compromise. This issue is fundamentally a difference in opinion (not facts) regarding when a distinct life begins. When people say “it’s killing a baby” or “it’s not a baby yet” they are saying an opinion.
In a healthy democracy a middle ground that neither extreme is happy with is the most reasonable way to approach this type of situation.

I don’t think the question of when viable life begins is ever going to be settled.
When neither extreme is happy, I usually am. I don’t know of any other countries that allow abortion on demand up to moment of delivery, no exceptions. Most seem to keep safety nets around it for medical emergencies and sex crimes, but the restrictions on everything else ramp up after the first trimester. And that seems to be what a large portion of the US is also comfortable with. I want similar protections in place, but I absolutely do not want abortion used as birth control. And while they’re not terribly common, I have read about too many accounts of women who use it this way, sometimes for selfish reasons.

If you want to use viability as your marker of when life begins then what do you say about those older folks who live in dementia units in nursing homes?
Many of them don’t even recognize their own spouses or even their own children. Many of them were at one time leaders of our community, lawyers, doctors, college professors here at the U.W. Madison. (As an aside, I might point out that our current President, Joe Biden resembles many of them to a tee.)
Point is that once again, where do we stop? If it is okay to terminate an unwanted child because that child is deemed unviable then why do we have laws that do not permit the termination of those who are at the end stages of dementia?
Not that I want to see that happen as I help take care of people with beginning and end stage dementia and will do anything to help them in their last stage of life. Many of our other residents also have medical issues that preclude them from leading a normal life. They need to be fed, they wear diapers, they need assistance just getting in and out of bed or a lift chair yet we take care of them all. They, after all are people, just like me and you. Different in some ways but still people.
Just like the unborn.

I just read the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act found here at:

What I find interesting in reading this act is that it protects bald eagles more than all human beings, to include the unborn, are now protected in this country.
The act says in part: “A violation of the Act can result in a fine of $100,000 ($200,000 for organizations), imprisonment for one year, or both, for a first offense. Penalties increase substantially for additional offenses, and a second violation of this Act is a felony.”
How many times have we seen a thug get out on no or low bail after committing a heinous crime against another or many individuals? Are we humans not more important than a bird?
Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m not advocating for the bald eagle to be harmed, I’m just wondering why we as a society place so little value on the lives of our fellow human beings.
Perhaps it is because if we allow the most innocent among us to be killed, it has taken away the value of all human life.
