Madison alders vote extra cops

Where is the mayor on this?

The Madison Common Council voted 12 to 7 Tuesday 02-22-22 to accept a three-year, $750,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to hire six additional police officers. The city must match one-quarter of the cost in its 2023 budget with the city eventually on the hook for the full amount.

The final decision will be made later this year during 2023 budget deliberations. Key will be whether Mayor Satya budgets for it. Some of last night’s “yes” alders have already signaled that they may/will change their vote to “no” during budget season, according to Madison Area Safety Connection.

I commend those alders who voted to fund the additional police. The message is (mostly) getting through, even highly progressive wards. Thanks again.

That is a positive sign. Now if only we had a mayor that voiced an opinion. Compared to Soglin, she is a mouse. I never thought I’d say this, but I’d rather have a mayor with a voice than one that is silent.

It won’t be a done deal for over 10 months. As stated, Heck, who is a sponsor, already said he may not support it this fall.

Don’t get comfortable, there are games being played.

If you never have, drop into a common council ZOOM meeting.

Barnum & Bailey have NOTHING on this ringmaster and clowns.

Madison is not ready for a San Francisco moment just yet! Better chance Mr. Biden will open the pipelines.
