Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

Summit on cops in schools?

Only if the National Guard is posted!

The Capital Times is trying to dig out from its disastrous demand that Madison’s public high schools evict school resource police officers. Editor Paul Fanlund kickstarts the back pedaling by riding former police chief Noble Wray’s call for a “summit” on police in schools.

How this summit might transpire, we are never told. If as an in-person conclave, shock troops from Freedom Inc., Progressive Dane, and BLM would disrupt it. That’s how they got the school board president last year to cave — by F-bombing her home with bullhorns and signage.

Fanlund tries to explain away his myopia: “There was longstanding criticism that the SROs (school resource officers) were part of a ‘school-to-prison pipeline’ that contributes to the frighteningly disproportionate number of people of color in our prison system. It’s hard to see Wray as any kind of agent of such a pipeline,” the editor acknowledges — since Wray is a black man as is current Police Chief Shon Barnes, who also champions police in schools.

Fact is, Freedom Inc. et al never represented black or brown Madison — only their own Marxist ideology.

Talk about weak arguments!

The current school board is locked in to Woke nihilism. Incumbents Ananda Mirilli and Cris Carusi are not seeking re-election but Ali Muldrow is. All three voted to expel police officers from our four troubled high schools while resisting suspending the young troublemakers because “EQUITY.” Some of those kids managed to shut down East high school in November for the one-third of its enrollment who stayed home, fearing violence. (Candidates have 22 days to file for the April election next year. See sidebar at right.)

But the CT was all-in on defunding police in schools at the time. Forget not its infamous 06-22-21 editorial: “It is time to stop stationing police officers in Madison schools:

The board should vote to remove the SROs for two reasons.

First, this shift in approach is appropriate and necessary. The arguments for it are strong. The arguments against are weak.

Second, the change can be a starting point for a host of changes that need to be made to create new models for public safety and public service in Madison and Dane County.

Blaska’s Bottom LineHard to argue with “logic” that circuitous. Hard to take seriously any source that spectacularly wrong.

Who have YOU encouraged to make the race?

In the WSJ article today the two candidates running so far don’t talk about school violence or dismal test scores. I guess educating students in reading and math is for someone other than MMSD. No SRO’s in schools and no education in schools just promotes “schools to prison” but they will be woke.

Excellent points Bob. “But they will be woke, but they will be woke.” All the way to prison, they will be woke.

Sad, so sad, these kids never really get a chance to excel in anything as they are not allowed to succeed or fail at anything.

The lessons of life, learned more gently than going to jail when I was young, shaped me as an adult, will never be learned by this young people.

No ex Marine football coach will ever take someone out behind the building to “tune them up a bit” as happened in my day. We boys knew the price of doing wrong in school.

If the teachers didn’t strike fear into your heart, there was always a meeting with the Principle, your parents and you to strike that fear. If that didn’t work, a Priest or a Minister that would be used to strike the fear of God into your heart.

In my day, you learned the difference between right and wrong in a hurry.

You kept those lessons with you for the rest of your life.

“The arguments for it are strong. The arguments against are weak.”

Yes, I remember that one well. What were those arguments you ask? Sorry not enough time and space to list them all here. Just trust me on that one.

Just like his other remark, “There was longstanding criticism that the SROs (school resource officers) were part of a ‘school-to-prison pipeline’.’”

“Longstanding” is not the same as valid. But look, let’s just check the record. Have there been more or less children of color committing crimes? Their stated reason, to have fewer arrests, is a red herring. Arrests were never the problem. Behavior was.

It’s a start, but it all depends on who is elected to the school board. So far, no one has stepped up who advocates for police in schools.

And no one will. The leftist ideologues who monopolize the school board and every other public office in Madison are incapable of admitting their failures (the dithering of pathetic sots like Fandlund is about as close as they get). No matter how dangerously divorced from reality their positions are revealed to be, they will cling to their leftist delusions more tightly than Trump-worshiping deplorables cling to their guns and religion. And Madison voters will validate them again and again and again. Of all the lost causes, expecting Madison to wake up and smell the “woke nihilism” of those who run this town is the most lost of all.

Sadly, I think that you are correct. I don’t think anyone will step up.

        Gary,
Your pessimistic and accurate portrayal of Madison’s ongoing downward spiral is like the smell of burning napalm in the morning, and I mean that in a good way.

Except that “napalm smells like victory”. When all has been burnt to the ground, the “woke” will be sitting in the midst of the ruins, in a circle, vigorously flicking their Bics.

Judge Ellen Berz with maybe the most unintentionally hilarious quote of 2021:

“Without teachers, our children would run around ignorant and unemployable.” (She said this while sentencing a parent to probation for a violent assault on a teacher in a Madison elementary school!)

In the interests of accuracy, she should have said, “…our children would run around ignorant and unemployable and stealing cars.”

Think about THIS story in light of the national school boards association colluding with Biden administration to classify as TERRORISTS parents who yell at school board meetings for implementing racial hatred in schools.

Where is the Biden administration on this?? Where is a federal case? Where are that pissant Merrick Garland and his minions in the almighty teachers union?!!!

An angry parent marches into a school and brazenly and violently attacks a teacher. Probation?!!! Must be a white privileged parent right? Uhh nope.
