More from ‘Madison’s token conservative’
(Does that make Blaska a protected class?)
Madison is over-policing certain populations, according to the official progressive party line. You’ll have to take it on faith because that theorem has never been challenged — much less empirically proven.
Apologists for this dogma fall back on the lazy supposition that if X group is arrested, stopped in traffic, et cetera in any proportion not corresponding one for one to their demographics in the total population, they are “over-policed.” A racial disparity.
The statistic is a few years old, but boys are disciplined in the Madison public schools at a ratio of 59 to 41 for girls. Are the schools over-policing boys? Or is it too difficult to believe that boys act out more often? Women are predominantly arrested for embezzlement. Is law enforcement biased against women or does that gender tend to handle the finances more frequently at small businesses, charities, and local government?
We return to Madison Ald. Brian Benford who on the electronic pages of The Daily Beast accused “Madison’s token conservative” of racism most foul for not acknowledging the truth of over-policing.
Benford said he didn’t mind Blaska questioning the resolution passed in September. But he said filing a lawsuit against it and simply rejecting the core reasons why the board was created, such as the over-policing of minority communities, displays a certain level of dismissiveness he can only chalk up to racism.
“This is a social justice issue and he’s clearly a racist,” Benford said.
Are Madison police arresting minority persons for spitting on the sidewalk? Ignoring shootouts between FFA members and the Stamp Club?
But then, Ald. Brian Benford is a dues-paying Socialist, endorsed by that political party along with Rebecca Kemble, Yannette Figueroa Cole, Nikki Conklin, Brandi Grayson, and Mad Max Prestigiacomo. Allied with Freedom Inc., Urban Triage, and Free the 350 Bail Fund. Benford and comrades are Derail the Jail, Defund the Police, Cops Out of Schools, and reparations. But no police body cameras.
“If people had the opportunity to really think about reimagining public safety where everyone felt safe in the city of Madison, that it would be clear that we really do need to reallocate funding …”— Ald. Brian Benford, as quoted in RedMadison, the local socialist organ. (Love its “Dear Commie” feature!)
Benford’s (and John Nichols’) Democratic Socialists of America are unwavering supporters of dictator Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela and his predecessor, the murderer and torturer Hugo Chávez. (Source here.)
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Brian Benford’s critical race theorizing is why Blaska is a conservative — however token.
