Assembly Speaker Robin Vos on the April 4 referendum to amend the constitution to
Reform bail
A constitutional amendment on bail reform bail reform allows courts to consider more relevant factors when setting bail for violent criminals. It strikes a balance between presuming innocence, public safety, and ensuring our judges have the appropriate tools to deal with repeat violent offenders.
The city of Milwaukee broke its homicide record for the third year in a row in 2022 and according to a 2021 news investigation, 1 out of every 5 homicide suspects was already out on bail or signature bond for another felony crime.
That means 20% of violent criminals in Milwaukee are reoffending! This amendment creates a two-tier system for bail between violent crimes and all other crimes. It does not eliminate a right to bail and does not interfere with the American principle of setting reasonable bail.
According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 48 states allow courts to consider “dangerousness.”
Bail reform had bipartisan support in both the Assembly and the Senate. Both chambers in the Wisconsin State Legislature have approved this constitutional amendment for two consecutive legislative sessions, the amendment will now be proposed to the voters on the April ballot.

The local power struggle mirrors the divide over the national chairman
Ronna McDaniel has done the very best she could do under circumstances that are not favorable to the RNC and has managed to build up trust between the non-Trump and pro-Trump factions within the GOP in a way very few others could thread the needle and build the relationships.” …
The problem is not really Ronna and the RNC but at the state level. They point to the problems at the state GOP level in Arizona, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. One committeewoman, who is not a Trump fan at this point, told me, “Ronna can’t fix Kelli Ward, but Ronna is fantastic at mitigating those types.”

David, I have to say, thank u for the blog, its been fun 4 years. Now i know u care more about process and showmanship than actually keeping a free and fair constitutional republic from becoming totalitarian run and owned by foreign countries. I have to say good luck boomer. The country is totally lost. U hated trump from the start, u called him orange dulce, ok voted for him in 2020 big woop. Rs better not take the milktoast route to election or else suffer consequence. Rs need unapolegectic tongues of the brits and the skins thicker than alligators to stop the insurrection that started 40 years ago and to be able to undue the laws being past for the next 2 years locally, stately and nationally. But has not happened yet so doubt it will happen in future. Good luck we will all need it.

Balboa says, “…good luck boomer”. Written by a spoiled GenXer or Millennial wishing to deflect from his own generation’s coddled reputation, perhaps? He describes Squire as caring more about “process and showmanship” than the Republic. This is an unfounded and unfair characterisation. I have always found Mr.Blaska’s writings to be sincere and cogent, reflecting true patriotism. Trump is the great showman who is mostly concerned with his public image.

Voice,
“I have always found Mr.Blaska’s writings to be sincere and cogent, reflecting true patriotism.”
So have I. I think David is a stand up guy and he’s certainly entitled to his own thoughts. That doesn’t mean we can’t disagree.
Question: Will you feel this way when Trump is but a distant memory, and Blaska gets back to calling out leftists?

Yes. I’ll still feel the same way.

Voice, missed the bigger point. R’s are lame old whiteys. Trump woke the party to all americans not one color creed or gender. If u want to be truly free or to fail the way trump supported is the only way. We were founded on the pursuit of happiness not the guarantee
David has his reasons, he held positions in government that required running for office. This crap cuts his heart like a knife.
Im not a djt worshipper, that man is an awful human. The great deceiver is still coming.
Boomer was in jest and he knows it from previous sarcastic remarks.

Balboa,
You say, ““process and showmanship” ? Rather an oxymoronic statement. Process = the core of the Constitution.
Showmanship? That would be The Donald’s over-the-top tweets from the get-go.
If you’re thinking the “country is totally lost”, then for you and others, it certainly is. Why not buckle down and move on? With hard work and commitment, conservatives can reverse their losses.
The key is to MOVE ON and BUCKLE DOWN, which apparently Progs did w-a-y better than us in this past election.
We had an ego-driven narcissistic INCUMBENT candidate that should have won handily.
Gotta stop living in the past, my friend; that way only leads to madness. The FUTURE is now …

The most recent election…yes…but only because they won. Oy! Can you even fathom what we’d be enduring had they lost???
While past performance is no guarantee of future performance, the best indicator of future performance is past performance; so let’s take a look at Lefty…post 11/08/2016.
Not to put too fine a point to it, Lefty launched a dangerous, yet voluntary, immersion into a catatonic, apoplectic, pillow-biting, pants $#!tting, bed wetting, wind-sucking, chest palpitating, vital sign ramping, mouth-breathing, fist-pounding, foot stomping, safe-space seeking, triggering, weenie-whiny, simpering-whimpering, complete metaphysical, emotional, existential, psychological, philosophical, full-throated, freaking out, melting down, totally collapsing free-fall.
The everLUVIN‘ kicker? They did it with the approval of their craven, ill-informed consciences, and a wholly compliant State Media deserves mention.
Anywho, the Gotch has moved on…but he’s keeping his powder dry!

Agreed. So why are people still talking about Trump? We have much bigger issues that are being overshadowed by this sham impeachment. Time to move on.

This seems like reaching. Did Trump tell people to commit violence? No, and that some people misinterpreted his words is on them, not Trump. We are all adults. Besides, his “fighting words” are no different than the “fighting words” uttered by every other politician.
This charade is about making sure Trump never runs again. It’s also about sending a message to anyone with a spine who wants to confront DC ineptness & corruption to stay away. Please spare me the “We’re principled people” when Trump’s accusers have uttered actual words of incitement without consequence, and when the left remains silent about leftist terrorist activities ALL SUMMER.
This is your blog and you certainly have a right to express your 1A rights as you see, but I don’t understand the need to keep re-hashing this. It feels like you’re trying to prove something, but people aren’t going to change their minds.
Meanwhile, Biden’s policies and the Swamp’s relationship with China is a threat to this nation. We also have stuff going on in this city that are more pertinent to our immediate lies than Trump’s sham impeachment trial. For example, is Paul Skidmore in danger of losing his seat, and what would this mean for MPD and public safety?
You so often nail local issues and even most national issues, but your blind spot for Trump is detracting from that. Again, your right to post whatever you want.

But….but….. he is literally Hitler! And the 3 hour beer belly putsch on Jan. 6 was worse than 9/11, Pearl Harbor, AND the Rwanda genocide all put together.
Waaaaah!!!
(Trump continues to live rent-free in folks’ heads. They are going to see him around every corner and behind every tree for all of their days, and they’re going to let us know all about it.)

Yes, I’m confused Squire: we saw all summer BLM/Leftist violent rioting endorsed by MSM (“mostly peaceful protests”) and literally encouraged by Democrats in leadership positions with no consequences. After Jan 6, we cant get the MSM to stop saying “riot and insurrection” and Trump gets gutted for a speech which, after several viewings, I still dont see any direct encouragement of violence. We should instead be discussing the Left’s hypocrisy, loss of life and billions in damage.

The media is covering the 2nd impeachment because they have to. After the acquittal, I’d like to never hear the name Trump again, except…Jonathan Karl of ABC News reports that Trump will still be influential in Republican circles and that GOP senators are afraid of him. And a wild rumor: Ivanka has her sights on Marco Rubio’s Senate seat.
For now, Trump talk is still very much alive.

Not all Congressional Representatives and Senators fear Mr. Trump, I should have added. Certainly not Senator Mitt Romney.
