Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

Liz Cheney is a real Republican

Pilloried for speaking out against the attempted coup

If some future national leader wants to update JFK’s book, Profiles in Courage, he should add a chapter on U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, who this weekend was censured by her Republican party in Wyoming. She is battling for the soul of a party against the likes of QAnon conspiracist Marjorie Taylor Greene. (Who is winning our on-line poll!)

Liz Cheney on Fox News Sunday 02-07-21:

“We are the party of Lincoln — not the party of QAnon or anti-semitism, or of Holocaust deniers or white supremacy or conspiracy theories … We believe in conservative principles and conservative values. We believe in the Constitution.

“When we think about what happened on January 6 … The single greatest threat to our republic is a President who will put his interests above the Constitution and above the national interests. We had a President who claimed the election was stolen and then apparently set about to steal it himself.

“There is a massive criminal investigation underway … People will want to know exactly what the President was doing — whether the tweet he sent out calling Vice President Pence a coward while the attack was underway — whether that tweet was a premeditated effort to provoke violence. … We’ve never seen that kind of an assault by a President of the United States on another branch of government. That can never happen again.”

Blaska’s Bottom LineYou know the Republican “brand” is in trouble when Mike Pence is a branded a traitor for not unilaterally (and unconstitutionally) overturning the election.

How far are YOU willing to go to reimpose Trump?

No she is not. She is a multi generation Swamp Creature. She is McCain, Romney et al. Now she can go to the cool cocktail parties and be praised by Schumer.

Liz is going to get bounced next election.

She also needs to get with the program. The venerable TIME magazine just published an article favorable to the coordinated efforts by a “cabal of elitists” to ensure a certain election outcome. It included craploads of money, changing election laws on the fly, and private organizations getting involved in running aspects of our public elections. One never Trump organization has been outdated having been cofounded by a pervy guy preying on young males including one as young as 14.

Doesn’t all of this strangely sound a bit Q-esque? Again I never heard of that business until very recently and am willing to bet most average voters haven’t, but these recent stories about a cabal of elitists including an actual pedo sure are strangely on point you have to admit….

    Agree with Expat & Adam.

Cheney is an elitist and part of the DC Swamp. I didn’t like her father (or George W) and I don’t like her. Just another warmonger who wouldn’t hesitate to send troops to fight in unnecessary wars. Considering that we are on course to lose our energy independence, war is now more foreseeable than it was under Trump. And she will be on board.

Unlike Trump, Cheney is not brash, but there’s more to being a Republican than minding your Ps and Qs.

Of course. You don’t like anybody, Liberty. Do you have any choice tidbits about the “DC Swamp”?

    Dave,
Your column is the final straw. Be honest. Declare yourself a Never-Trumper RINO and proceed.
You’ve consistently continued to evade the central question of the election–> Was it FAIR? In what court or venue were Trump supporters afforded the opportunity to present evidence that the election results in the bell-weather states were different than the “certified” outcomes? Again, to my knowledge, the answer is “None.” So, what recourse did those with objections have? How can anyone think that Trump “put his interests above the Constitution and above the national interests.,”as Cheney claims? Trump, again, was the victim of illegal actions. The Constitution affords him the fair treatment that he was denied.
As I have repeatedly argued, Trump’s style alienated many people, but the question is, should that be sufficient cause to deprive him of his Constitutional rights as a candidate? I’ll continue to argue, “NO.”

IMO, it is clear that to you and Cheney, the ends justified the means. I did not like Trump, but the question of fair and equal treatment in an election is separate and distinct from one’s personal taste and bias.

At this time, confirmed by the current Time article, the Dimocrats violated the spirit (and mechanics) of the idea of fair elections. What is the evidence and what are the facts that contradict the idea that Trump voters were treated fairly? We have not had an accounting, though you can point to “official certification” of the vote totals.

Lynn Cheney? Yes, she should join the Democratic Party. I say this as one who, like Cheney, does NOT believe we are “the party of QAnon or anti-semitism, or of Holocaust deniers or white supremacy or conspiracy theories.” The FBI confirms that plans to use violence to gain access to the Capitol were planned DAYS before Trump even began to speak to the crowd on Jan. 6. And, even if one assumes the most damaging evidence supports the Dimocrat contentions of a Trump-inspired insurrection, why were his “instructions” to the crowd not more specific? If Trump had planned an insurrection, why didn’t he tell his army of supporters to arrive at The Elipse with weapons?

Cheney says her ideal of the Republican Party is to stand for principles and ideals—and that the election was not rigged. The admission that the election was ‘rigged’ as the Time article claims? If Trump assumed the Republican Party stood for principles and ideas — then on those terms, what does Cheney think of the evidence in the Navarro Reports? https://www.iheart.com/podcast/139-vicki-mckenna-27246267/ and NavarroReports.com

More to the point, what does Herr Blaska think of the Navarro Reports?

    1. You write: “It is clear that to you and Cheney, the ends justified the means.” It is also clear that to many Trump supporters keeping Trump in power justifies storming the Capitol and attempting to stop the certification of the Electoral College results. Martial law to “restore the Constitution”? Hang Mike Pence???? Justified if it keeps Trump in power.

Republican governors and legislatures in Arizona and Georgia, for instance, have no interest in electing Joe Biden. The voting machine companies are calling the bluffs of blowhards like Lou Dobbs to prove their allegations or pay up. As for My Pillow Guy, frequent Fox News contributor Jonathan Swan tweeted this about OAN’s disclaimer before airing the My Pillow Guy’s three-hour conspiracy theory: “A little jarring to hear a network admit it’s about to lie to you.” Is it so difficult to believe that Trump won Pennsylvania by two-tenths of one percentage point in 2016 and lost Pennsylvania by two-tenths of one percentage point in November? Trump began lying in July that if he lost it was because of chicanery. I voted for the bastard because I liked his policies. But the guy can’t stop lying.

B-> “It is also clear that to many Trump supporters keeping Trump in power justifies storming the Capitol and attempting to stop the certification of the Electoral College results. Martial law to “restore the Constitution”? Hang Mike Pence???? Justified if it keeps Trump in power.”

Your claim is disingenuous. Of the thousands of people who marched on the Capitol, how many screamed, “Hang Pence”? How many actually entered the building with malicious intent or expressed violence? Compared to violence in Minneapolis, Portland and on State Street (Heg and Ms. Forward destruction), the level of violence at the Capitol was almost a non-event. No paintings destroyed; no fires, no offensive gunshots from protestors; no firearms. Second, it is not clear how many wanted to keep Trump in power compared to those who wanted a 10-day congressional investigation into election irregularities as Sen Cruz and others wanted.
Motivation of Rep Gov’s in AZ and GA? Neither wanted the national attention of an election audit that was comprehensive. The WHouse team wanted to audit ballots in Atlanta and were refused. And, I’ve yet to hear a convincing explanation about the video of boxes of ballots that were removed for counting after poll workers had been sent home. Since the AZ Dominion machines will be audited, we may soon learn more.
I never took positions about Mike Lindell (pillows) or OAN’s coverage of voting (can’t get OAN). I’ve no idea if any of their claims had merit. BUT, I have consistently hoped that the questions of illegalities and irregularities be examined in an honest process. My over-arching PoView is that elections should always be conducted in an honest and fair manner. The 3 volumes that Peter Navarro has written are, alone, sufficient justification to have a thorough and investigation. Convenient for you to ignore his allegations.

More factual information that might affect perceptions of what really happened.

Well said. The violence at the Capitol pales in comparison to the ‘mostly peaceful’ riots. There were essentially no weapons. Insurrection? Blow me.
Trump did not get the hearing he deserved on the issues he raised, but he did take it as far as it could go in the time available. This was his right. I also would have preferred to see that process play out but he was shut down every time. The Supreme Court bailing on his hearing dooms the country to violent strife.
PS – Trump’s a d*ck. However, he was the president and deserves to be treated as such.

All your questions about the voting will be answered in court during the Dominion lawsuit. The previous lawsuits were an absolute joke filed by people who couldn’t even spell. When you file a case against a county in Michigan that doesn’t exist; your an idiot. Your the accuser and you want the accused to prove your case? It doesn’t work that way.

Sincere question: As someone who converted to the GOP just a few years ago, I’d like to know what long-time conservatives consider to be a “real” Republican.

I found George W & Dick Cheney to be repulsive when I was still voting D. These two acted the part of “good conservatives” but sent us to what many argue were illegitimate wars. They did the bidding of the Evangelicals, coming off as preachy and unforgiving as today’s leftist SJWs. If that’s what some of you view as conservatism, then count me out.

This “new version’ of the GOP is much more diverse, and it seems to maintain the basic tenets of conservatism: free speech, free market / enterprise, personal accountability, disdain for big government, respect for life.

What did Trump do that didn’t respect these tenets? Is his personality really that much of a turnoff that you’ll sacrifice your beliefs? What am I missing here?

Liberty: I agree with much of your post. The Bush/Cheney invasion of the Middle East during the 1990s and 2003 using WMD as an excuse was horrible. Iraq by itself was not the seat of international terrorism.

As to the visceral dislike of Trump, for me it has to do with his disrespect for the American Presidency. Guessing at his motives, I would suspect business interests along with pure hubris. The man had no understanding of the federal government or the workings of D.C. He was a showman and entrepreneur. In his cavalier fashion, he seemed to use this powerful office almost as a show, a plaything. Towards the last days things became darkly serious for Mr. Trump, tracing back to the start of the pandemic.

If Trump does any future jail time, it will likely be for tax evasion. (Big IF). He is under investigation from all sides. Currently under second impeachment charges, he will be acquitted of incitement to insurrection.
