Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

Minority residents aren’t woke enough for Madison alders

Peace & safety loses out to virtue signaling

Angela Jackson is president of Allied/Dunn’s Marsh neighborhood association. She and her board of directors asked for a ban on alcohol consumption at 1.2-acre Allied Park after several shootings.

“I support the ban because when the [90-day temporary] ban was there it was decent and we have children,” she told the Madison Common Council on November 17.

Not good enough for 12 of Madison’s woke alders. Because Progressive Dane was concerned that banning alcohol consumption in the neighborhood park might (wait for it) discriminate against minorities.

“There’s legitimate equity concerns here,” quibbled Ald. Tag Evers, who represents the wealthy and overwhelmingly white Vilas Monroe Street 13th District. “My sense is there’s not much pushback when these recommendations come from an alder … to acknowledge the racial justice issues that may occur.”

Ald. Grant Foster (Progressive Dane) agreed. “I’m just struggling how an alcohol ban affects root-cause issues. I would like to see the equity analysis.” Foster and Evers are White.

“Amid recent shootings, Allied Drive neighborhood
is working to curb violence.”

“Not to tear up this park, not to be shooting in the park, not to be partying at 2, 3, 4 in the morning,” Alice Howard, Allied Dunn’s Marsh neighborhood association former president, said. Summer of 2020 NBC TV-15

Never mind that area Ald. Zachary Henak met five times with the neighborhood after the shootings. “The requests for an alcoholic ban did not stop, it came from residents,” Henak argued.

Blaska’s Bottom LineWho would watch out for minorities if it weren’t for progressives like Foster and Evers conducting “equity analyses”?

What do the people who actually live there know?

Simple — MAKE the Alders prove THEIR belief in equality and spend all the weekends in the park ,,,, with their families they can take some nice grillers and picknik ware.
    They “decline”???? THEY ARE RACIST

Gotch – you see race, others see economics. In other words, I think your position is just the flip side of the race baiters in Madison.

Watch this 14 min vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbKp8OV6F64 and tell me just how you’d get out of this existence if you and everyone else in those neighborhoods were white. I seriously doubt that your skin color would lead to your salvation.

Not everyone is as privileged as you are.

Gotch – Actually, let me save you some time in responding to my comment, which I think was unduly judgmental about your own post. I agree that culture (NOT race per se) certainly does have a lot to do with these problems. Here are some responses to that short documentary which certainly have the ring of truth. (Actually, after watching it again, I think this excellent short doc is actually different from the one I had in mind. That was a longer one which I can’t remember the name of.

As per my broken record mantra, I do put the onus for all this violence and despair mostly on the Chicago Public School System, which is probably worse than Madison when it comes to offering educational alternatives for families who want them. And that certainly would includes many families in Madison who have fled Chicago for the very reasons portrayed in this video.

Below are comments by different individuals, separately by paragraph, and taken from the first 50 or so:

Every time you make a gansta rap song you’re just making the problem worse.

He might be sayin the hood messed up but that’s how some ppl make bank to have enough to leave or put food in their plate they ain’t born w a golden fork in their hand. Trust me 80% of ppl r born into this shit I live in the south side but I got homies in the west and it be hard to hang w dem.

I grew up in a neighborhood like that. And listening to that bullshit music is part of the problem. You are what you think and speak. Grow the fuck up and raise them kids. Teach them the way we grew up was bullshit! Being a rapper ain’t the only way out of poverty. Read a damn book, and educate yourselves. It’s all kinds of stuff to sell other than drugs and music. Work hard and stop looking for the easy way out.

Do what sells to get out you need to pay attention before you talk shit

I do have to agree with you. I grew up in the same and my parents were STRICT AS HELL and I was a nerd but on my way home from the bus I was tempted to dope fiends and men who wanted to molest me or kidnap and I always told my dad.

True story. Chicago was our home. I raised my son in South Shore then relocated to Woodlawn. When he turned 15, he started hanging out with the wrong crowd and being in areas he knew were forbidden by me. I was a single Mother. Worked multiple jobs most of his life. Every day it was another child’s picture on the SunTimes that had just got murdered. Many of my friends had children who had been shot. Some died. I made a decision. I got my tax refund. Put in my 2 week notice, ended my lease, sold all my belongings, packed 4 suitcases of or necessities, and bought 2 one-way tickets to Georgia. We were homeless the first few weeks. Georgia is slow and boring as hell. But my son just turned 21. He is alive and well. Many of his friends have died or are in jail. Many call him daily begging to him to assist them with moving here. I haven’t even allowed him to go back and visit. I love Chicago, but we ain’t gone die for it.

Garbage culture, garbage mindset.70% of homes are single mothers. No fathers,no father fixures.Take no responsibility for anything. Its everyone else’s fault.

When you glorify guns, drugs, whips, hoes, gangs, killings, bravado, what did you expect the outcome was going to be?

I don’t get it at all ! These people live in a country where you can be ANYTHING you want to if you are really willing and focused but yet they choose this lifestyle?? I came to this country 15 years ago , worked in a restaurant as a kitchen prep , saved my fist $1500 after a month and a half , bought my first car , got a second job and after couple of years saved $30k to open my first business ….life is all about choices !

Funny how I was born and raised here on the South Side and was 1 of 3 white families on my block (59th Talman). I never got arrested, graduated high school, found work, and raised a family. Tired of hearing excuses. It’s straight up laziness and bad parenting. Once kids get a few hundred easy dollars from selling drugs, they want more. Then they think they are rich once they have $1000. Instead of saving that money they re-invest in more drugs. Sooner or later they get caught or get robbed. Back to square 1. I don’t feel bad. Then they say they didn’t have the same opportunities as me. Yes, you’re right. I didn’t get jobs because of the color of my skin. I had to take a bus into the suburbs every morning at 6:10am.

          —–end of comments —

I hope this saved you some time in responding too strongly. It’s a complex issue for sure, but whenever I see not-so-veiled racist comments from comfortable white people who seem to have no idea what is going on in our inner cities – which is not really their own fault – I do see a red flag. Again, not really your fault, and I apologize in advance if I offended you with my post.

AMOS — I didn’t get anything racial from Gotch’s remark. My immediate thought was, five Liberal cities, operating with Progressive agendas that encourage bad decisions, all with rather tenuous relationships with their own police departments. —- I did watch your video, (because of the question you posed). Only two professions are discussed, drug dealing and rapping. I wonder how many deal to feed their own habits? How many just when they need money for rent and food? How many just to buy material things, (cars, clothes, guns, etc.)? I would think that a competent drug dealer could accumulate a sizeable bankroll in a year, so put it toward a better life. Unfortunately if you “lick the spoon”, work part-time, or spend your money on “flash”,– you lack committed goals. (because you are a “victim”?) — Rappers —As an acknowledged professional musician, you are acutely aware of the sacrifices and the lengths some must go to succeed in that business. (working gratis, busking, seeking and exploiting every opportunity, etc.) Had you simply learned 15 or 20 piano pieces, then declared yourself to be a pianist, and then just slept and “hung out on the corner with your friends”, where would you be? Would you be a “victim? Progressivism has sold a lot of people a “victim-hood bill of goods”. —Your question — If we all lived in a “white ghetto”, and truly wanted to escape it, (not being victims) it would be up to US to effect that. Whether we succeed, or fail, it’s on us. If I can’t make it as a rapper, it’s not because I’m white !! –(on second thought, it probably is)

Aside from you not thinking that Gotch’s remark wasn’t racist in nature, I agree with your post. Thinking that you may have missed my follow-up one which makes your point and revises my first post as well. But the power of poverty and violence (and of course the media) are IMO undeniably the most important factors in all this. Anyone familiar with the struggles of black folks under Jim Crow knows that this is not a race issue per se. This is why it’s particularly disheartening to see the white plantation owners in Madison treat black families who are fleeing Chicago for a better life as just slavish pawns in their own game of virtue-signaling, regardless of the obvious cost to these folks.

Thanks for the post and hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Still a lot to be grateful for, even if some of us (definitely not me) have to search deeper for this.

Voice – All your “solution” does is to ensure that the criminals end up paying more for these weapons while law-abiding citizens are left defenseless. The level that this lawlessness and terror can lead to for honest civilians is illustrated just south of our border. You want to take a huge chunk out of gun violence? Decriminalize all drugs.

        Voice,
Your comment encouraging a country wide limitation on firearms once again evokes the micro-brain reference but since it’s Thanksgiving Batman will refrain. Aside from the bazillion *unenforced* gun laws already on the books, hows about concentrating on reigning in the violence in the top five cities so the USA would come in at 189 out of 193 countries for murder?

One guarandamnteed solution would be to evict, eject, and discharge, with extreme prejudice all the sleazy proglibocrats running those cities and replace with God fearing, pro-America, common sense, hard-ass, law and order conservatives. Not possible I know but would work.

I remember being at a Council meeting early- to mid-2000s on a temporary ban on loitering. All of the Allied residents (and maybe some others) were basically all in favor. Isthmus residents almost uniformly opposed even though the difference in crime at the time were factors of level lower than Allied. Allied lost…the issue the area has faced for over 2 decades. Sad then, sad now.

Batman, you’re right, that isn’t clear at all. What I meant that was under segregation there was a very strong black culture with intact families and a serious culture of high achievement among many segregated black communities. (As a musician, I know all about that, and I wrote about this on my website when I ran for school board.)

I’m sure you are familiar with the observation that the irony of desegregation was that it enabled so many role models to escape segregated neighborhoods and leave others behind. Regarding intact families, I think that the percentage of two-parent black families was actually higher than white families after the Civil War! (Sorry I can’t quickly dig up the source for that since this is a hasty TG day response.)

Glad to hear that Gotch was really referring to Democratic-controlled cities. Case closed, so far as I’m concerned.

Thanks for the links, I’ll check them out, although I’m guessing I already understand and largely agree with those points. That said, I do stand by my position that there are far too many privileged white folks who honestly just are clueless when it comes to the reality of trying to get ahead when you’re black and stuck in a community of poverty and violence.
Not a bleeding heart liberal, but I see this all the time coming from many perfectly upstanding conservatives.

      Happy Thanksgiving!

That includes all of us, black white or brown. Male or female. Straight, gay, lesbian, trans, etc.
They want you to be obedient to them.

They do this through guilt tripping you to think that somehow you are the racist, homophobe, misogynist bigot that they want you to be for their purposes. They, the “woke” crowd want you to think that unless you think exactly the way they want you to, you are wrong.
