The Trump referendum – WSJ

A success in foreign affairs, courts & the economy

a better record on Covid than given credit

The Wall Street Journal:

The best argument for re-electing Mr. Trump is as a brake on a Democratic Party that is increasingly radical on the economy and the culture; Mr. Biden won’t be able or willing to do it. A GOP Senate could also be that brake, though the Senate’s fate may depend on how well Mr. Trump does. Covid and partisan passions make this election even harder than usual to handicap. Voters who want a centrist President Biden should split their tickets.

If Mr. Trump does lose, and takes a Republican Senate down with him, the cause will not be weak Republicans, incompetent campaign staff, or even the relentless partisanship of the press. Joe Biden and the Democrats couldn’t make Mr. Trump the third incumbent in a century to be fired after a single term. Only Donald Trump could do that.

If only…. Trump had been more restrained, it woulda/coulda been a shoe-in. But we knew trouble was brewing after the FIRST Tweet. Now we’re bitin’ our nails….

It’s not a matter of Trump’s character–by now everyone knows that what you see is what you get. If it hadn’t been for the plague and Trump’s less than stellar handling of that deus ex machina, he’d be sailing to re-election and Republicans would likely keep the Senate and reclaim the House. Of course the MSM has been working tirelessly to portray his covid policy as an unmitigated disaster despite the fact that he managed to keep the economy afloat while keeping deaths and hospitalizations at manageable levels. Democrats would have instituted prolonged and severe lockdowns despite the fact that most Americans would suffer worse than they are now (except in places like Madison, where people are never happier than when they’re obeying the dictates of “experts”).

Trump would be a shoe in if we had a modicum of honesty in the Press.
It is not his tweets, it’s that he is not a swamp dwelling political creature, who says anything necessary to fool the people, who have not had a descent civics education in 50 years!

Spot on Lars. Again, it comes back to our educational system. It’s hard to imagine a worse district than what MMSD has turned into in this regard, unless you approve of Mao’s Cultural Revolution or the education of Hitler’s Youth.
Too strong an analogy? Time may tell otherwise. Not parenthetically, note the huge difference between the objective conditions of both Germany and China during those times, compared with what we currently have here in Wisconsin. Just too sad for words, what we are doing to the minds of our children/future adults here in Madison and indeed throughout our country.

Again, I think IT COMES BACK TO OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.

Saw a poll the other day saying that THE issue in this election was Covid, Covid and Covid. Of course the Democrat’s narrative is how badly Trump has handled it, right?

Well, think waaay back to February. Trump tries to suggest how to avoid shutting down our economy completely. Every Democrat governor in the country told him buzz off.
“We’re in charge here! Mind your own business, this is our call, and we’re going to be safe and lock it down tighter than a drum.”

And Trump had to admit, that they were the ones in charge.

And so began 8 months of shut down. All for safety of course. And with very few exceptions, cautious measures have been in place, and OBSERVED for the most part. So naturally, we have seen Covid cases drop like a rock, and we have not only flattened the curve, we have virtually wiped out the virus in Wisconsin. Thank you Tony Evers, I’m so happy a man who believes in science, has been ENTIRELY in charge THE ENTIRE TIME.

    Wait, we’re peaking!??

    It’s Trump’s fault.

If Trump does lose, I think that we could also look at the major media organizations, social platforms like Twitter and Facebook who regularly de-platform or remove posts and illegal shenanigans by the dem’s in their effort to vote early and vote often. Do you know that according to the City of Madison you can vote if you are homeless if you bring in a letter from a homeless shelter or if you bring in a letter from a letter from a private or public social service agency identifying you and saying that you are receiving services from them and where you are staying.

    Click to access Training%20Handout.pdf

Even on the local level, I have held for years that it is just wrong for 40,000 kids to come here each fall and sign up to vote in our city and county races when they have no skin in the game.

Most of those kids vote democratic as what difference does it make to them how much the taxpayers will have to shell out for the stuff promised to the the democrat base.

Does anyone really think that Max Prestigiacomo would have gotten elected to the City Council if the University students could not vote in our local elections?

And, of course, alternative viewpoints for those 45,000 (sic) students are censured within the vast echo chambers of UW, due to fear of the Mob. It’s precisely this violent cancel culture which UW Madison has proudly nurtured, aided and abetted for years.

Meanwhile, it’s those of us who live and work in Madison who pay – in every sense of the word – for this wonton destruction of our city. As you say, so much of this is because the average citizen is outnumbered at the ballot box by students who “have no skin in the game”.

      Excellent post, Bill. Thanks.

There’s enough Orange Man Bad sediment in the hive-minded media.
    C’mon, man. “Et tu”, Dave?

Believing itself to be so superior, Lefties routinely resort to tactics of suppressing news and opinion, lying, shoving, blocking access, rioting, Burning, Looting and Murdering. The Legion of Lefty thugbuggerists in both BLM and Antifa are the Democrat shock troops and cannon fodder. Democrats use the tactics of the brownshirts and the blackshirts of the 1930s, believing that “It’s NOT fascism when we do it.”

The Fourth Estate has evolved to become more like a Fifth Column, … a domestic enemy within.
Ms. Media in the #FakeNews has become so blatantly biased and politically partisan, they’ve thrown away their credibility and lost the trust of We, the People. This is most certainly true.

It is interesting that you bring up Trump’s success in foreign affairs. With the good news from just last hour that an American citizen who was being held hostage has been rescued from West Africa by Seal Team 6 with no loss of life of any of our servicemen.

And do you recall who was President and Vice President when the Benghazi raid took place and how that administration left our brave service people and an American Ambassador to die?

Standard talking points: Kids in cages (although Obama built the cages). Fine people. Trump is a racist, crooked, blahdeblahblah, without being able to define why.

So untrue and ridiculous are the things they utter. Then they praise themselves for being “critical thinkers” and above reproach. This is precisely why so many people (including me) have walked away from the Democratic party. The party of tolerance, diversity, and inclusion is anything but.

I made the judgement, without ever having met you, that you are a good man as I’ve already opined in this blog.
I offer criticism of a viewpoint, etc, to people I respect, and I guess I’ll stop doing that either 1)if you want me to or 2)when I lose respect for you in general. (Don’t ever see #2 happening.) Please let me know if it’s #1 and I’m happy to leave you alone. Interestingly, however, I honestly can’t think of any issues of substance where I’ve really disagreed with you on something – hence my observation that you are indeed holding a very senseless grudge.

I don’t bother to engage with someone like RavenOaks who strikes me as just nasty and childish. Depending on who (s)he* is, maybe if I met them** I might
see the possibility of personal growth, but hardly worth dealing with in the context of a
          productive dialogue on this blog.
Not sure you what you want me to do in the future, Gotch. Flag the posts that make me laugh out loud, like the two I mentioned, or just stay mum regarding them all? Tell me and I’m happy to oblige. And yes, it would be great to meet you sometime in person!
