Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

Democrat hugs Republican — force fields collide!

Get a room you two!

We were not huggers, growing up in mid 20th-century Wisconsin. Perhaps because there were too many of us in our farm family. That, and often we had just come in from the barn.

Then some fat Italian guy was all over mass media in the 1970s peddling the healing powers of the bodily embrace. (Who was that guy?) Now, seldom-seen cousins zero in on the body like a nose tackle in the NFL.

The head groundskeeper at Blaska Policy Werkes was kvetching at the barista of his favorite coffee shop a few years ago when the young lady behind him in line declared that what the irrascible one needed was a good hug. Whereupon she administered — unbidden — a bosomy embrace. At its completion, the complete stranger pressed her business card into the reeling victim’s hand. She is a professional hugger.

We wonder how her business is doing in today’s climate of Covid-19 paranoia, when even the business-like handshake is a bygone relic of Mad Men, the noon martini, and pro-police Democrats.

Dark shadows have been cast!

This overly long (and arguably tedious) prologue takes us to U.S. Sen. Diane Feinstein 10-15-20. The ranking member of the Judiciary Committee offended the Trump Resistance by embracing the Republican chairman, Lindsay Graham, in a full body squeeze. Associated Press reports:

It was a hug that quickly cast a shadow over Dianne Feinstein’s long career in the U.S. Senate. The California Democrat embraced Republican Lindsey Graham at the close of confirmation hearings Thursday for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, publicly thanking the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman for a job well done.

“This has been one of the best set of hearings that I’ve participated in,” Feinstein said.

Calls from liberal activists for her ouster from Democratic leadership were swift, unequivocal and relentless.

“It’s time for Sen. Feinstein to step down from her leadership position on the Senate Judiciary Committee,” said Brian Fallon, the executive director of Demand Justice, which opposes conservative nominees to the courts.

No mask, no social distancing. But that is not what roasts progressives’ chestnuts. It is the collegiality that offends them. These are the same people who demand Kyle Rittenhouse’s head on a pike but refuse to get crossways with the Marxists burning, looting, and shooting Portland OR, Oakland CA, and Kenosha WI.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Progressives need anger like the Nascar needs crash-ups. Keeps the interest up.

Do YOU need a hug?

Appreciate your persistent posts about this point, Kooter (funding for WILL.) Not saying that this issue has been settled, but it helps the rest of us “low information voters,” as Alfred puts it below, assess how credible certain other posters are when they make factual claims but then fail to back them up even when being pressured to do this..
I can see something like “a friend of mine told that’s what he heard,” but the deflections I’m reading in response to your simple question? Obviously, from those responses so far, there’s no great interest in actual facts. Just claim it’s a “fact” and then tell others to go do the research when you are asked for the source. What a surprise……must be the first time this has happened anywhere.

I mentioned earlier in one of my posts that I used to spend a lot of time reading websites like Commondreams, Alternet, etc, because I could get useful factual information rather than just reading pejoratives and hyperbole. How things have changed! Now, I’m realizing that a site like AIER.com, not to mention Fox TV, which I always wrote off as rightwing propaganda, is way more at home with discussing factual issues rather than an endless string of adjectives and ad hominems. AIER”s coverage of COVID is the best I know of. Everyone should check out the numerous articles they’ve featured regarding this issue.
Best site for real investigative journalism with a sterling record for factual accuracy? I’d say consortiumnews.com.

Thanks for those clarifications Gg Mo and I will certainly check out all your suggestions. Agreed regarding Tucker, which is what I was basing this comment on most. We don’t have a TV (no interest in myself or my family in going mad before our time) and my comments are just based what I occasionally see on YT. As an anchor, Tucker is the one I do admire and would trust. I have seen useful interviews by Dobbs, Hannity, Ingram, etc. Just depends on the guest, not so much the host, as I often find them irritating. (Again, the exception being Carlson.) Really spend a small amount of time with any of this – sure do wish TV/radio stations would provide a transcript of their shows. If Democracy Now can, why can’t an operation like Fox?

This brings up the central difference between literacy and non-literacy, which is never honestly addressed in our schools, except with empty platitudes and hand-wringing racist rhetoric. When was the last time you ever heard of MMSD targeting video games or TV when discussing the root cause of student illiteracy? Just doesn’t happen, except maybe in vague and unoffensive terms. Again, the solution is school choice. Waldorf schools, for example, are ALL about this issue!

Gotch, by scared and insecure, I was talking about for reasons like economic stress, peer pressure and lack of belief in who you are. The latter is getting worse every day with the within our schools who operate under a vision of equity, which means means simply judging kids by the color of their skin. It’s the Plantation firmly in charge of your mind. For a case study of this, see the excellent Isthmus interview with Kaleem Caire about his experience growing up in Madison over 30 years ago. That, of course, was long before the proud institutionalized racism within MMSD today. https://isthmus.com/news/cover-story/kaleem-caire-change-agent/

I can’t easily find the original exchange of posts where I noted Richard’s lack of response to Kooter’s question. Gotch, no need to add in the “sic.” The barb was understood. Especially given that Dave has already finally vented over this irritation and I assume corrected this irritant. We all have room for improvement……and being a bully just isn’t attractive to a lot of us.

Yes, of course, I understand ******* ******’s current mode of debate. I wasn’t born yesterday! But why not encourage growth rather than total destruction? Maybe I’m naive, but i don’t sense that he’s hopeless. Again, we all have room for improvement, although it certainly irritates me that we are all paying for what his kind of mindless echo-chamber politics has created when it regards our future. But at least he’s here and willing to engage. Again, if you want change, it makes no sense to just keep squaring off at EVERY opportunity, does it? I’m a major environmentalist and it breaks my heart on how the entire environmental community turned on Trump instead of engaging in dialogue with him. You talk like that to anyone, much less a guy with Trump’s temperament, and expect anything positive to come out from that? NOT A CHANCE.

I admit this kind of wisdom has been a long time coming for me. I was one of those kids who would challenge everyone walking by me to a fight, just maybe a bit worse. Lots of reasons for that. Do you know ******* well enough to understand where he’s coming from in this regard? Do we know ANYONE online well enough to do this? I know it’s fun – do I ever know it’s fun – but it can also be just self-indulgent and counter-productive when taken too far. Again, still trying to learn this lesson myself. So if you’d like to take me on over this Buddy, tell me where and when and I’ll be there, you ****in *****!!!

I think that living in a country where dialogue is still possible, at least in a place like here, is something to still be valued. IMO the Head Grounds Keeper here is a PERFECT example of what I’m talking about.

Hmm….well if he’s been corrected a number of times before about pretty simple grammar, then I guess he deserves it. Especially when it does seem like he’s just coming in looking for some childish fight most/all of the time.

Not saying there aren’t true jerks in this world who aren’t worth much more than contempt. Like you said, maybe it’s because I haven’t been around that long here. I’ll guess I’ll reserve judgement a bit longer before drawing my own conclusion. But consider my comments too. It usually takes two to fight, right?

Gotch, that was a joke. Some of us have a history when the testosterone was a bit higher.
Which can be a good thing when it comes to understanding the age group of so many teens and young adults who are so aggressive, hostile and disrespectful of others. It’s why I think that male teachers are so important in the middle school and high school years, and why I’m convinced that gender differences often make a huge difference in the way we are treating young and scary males, especially black ones, in our schools and our society in general. (There are certainly exceptions regarding gender, the shamefully-treated master teacher Karen Vieth at Sherman Middle School being one.) I think it’s mostly about fear and misunderstanding coming from our teachers and administrators who just aren’t cut out to deal effectively with the real issues at play here.
More equity or drugs – sorry, I mean “medication”- will NEVER work, but true school choice for kids who have no money might. I’m sorry, but most (not all) of these troubled kids right smack dab in the middle of adolescence are not bad kids. They are just so scared and insecure. So many of them have never had a father. So what the hell does anyone with half a brain expect when it comes to why they are acting out? It isn’t just because they’ve haven’t been locked up and had the key thrown away before they are adults.
This is why I like Blaska’s position – he offers intelligent and genuinely humane solutions as well as clearly sounding a long-overdue alarm.

        1. My comments are quick-reads, no “time-suck” intended. Some teachers imposing “their” ideologies ,”power-trips” etc, and some maintaining Wonderful professionalism, presumsions of ability, matter-of-fact expectations ,and objectivity. I, myself, grew to not agreeing with interpretations of Fredrik Rittlemeyer/R.Steiner , and so had parellel theological culture at home, and of course, historical expansions , and excavations in reviewing various subjects taught . I definitely did Not want my children going down certain rabbit-holes of expanding the “truths” that seemed to be encouraged by elements in the community regardless of their “good intentions” . The “Waldorf” HS, “Youth Initiative” (acrossed the courtyard) newsletter, ” the Kaleidoscope” would thoroughly imform you as to why I STOPPED their education under the “Waldorf” label when my children were entering HS. The YIHS students were absolutely bussed/herded to all of the protests. There were photos shared etc.On a visit to the office of the principle of this “school” 6 years ago, I got to see his office plastered with Marx, Mao, “resistance” fists etc etc . This is the poison in the well that “seems” to (as in, ABSOLUTELY does) have missionaries, who work within ,and without the communities they plant themselves (their ideologies) in. Everyone’s a nail , and they weild the sledgehammer of “virtue”. “Saving the world” …The trajectory has been quietly tragic for some of these children, and mentally/spiritually enslaving to many. I was going to abbreviate (IMO), but I have hard evidence ,and lived observations. No need to respond. Just one parent’s experience as a marker of patterns.

Thanks for the clarification, Gg Mo. You put “Waldorf” in parenthesis for good reason.
Youth Initiative is NOT a Waldorf School, rather a “Waldorf-Inspired” school. There is a big difference. Anyone can claim to be “inspired” by someone, but that may not mean they have much in common. It’s up to their hopefully-informed parents to make that call. And if they aren’t informed, they soon become so, and can then make the switch as you ended up doing.
Chicago Waldorf, High Mowing (NH,) Rudolf Steiner School (NYC), Waldorf School of Saratoga Springs (NY), Waldorf School of Santa Fe, etc, along with hundreds others throughout Europe are certified Waldorf Schools. I doubt that any of them have posters of Marx, Mao, raised fists, etc, in the principal’s office.
It sounds to me like you made a good choice in taking a different path after your kids graduated from Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School. Again, I think it’s all about real public school choice for all parents, not just those with money. Not all parents have the economic means to yet make these choices, given that we’re still a long ways from a meaningful voucher program in most parts of the state, most definitely including Madison. Regarding the question of true school choice for everyone, I’m firmly on the voucher side rather than the much more restrictive charter side.
I’m curious – did your kids end up at Laurel HS or the regular Veroqua High School? What was their experience there?

          Wow it Gg Mo.
You’re right about the directory! My mind is spinning that AWSNA is allowing a high school, where the principal has posters of Marx and Mao hanging on the wall, call itself a Waldorf school.
I’m sorry, I mean an “Associate Waldorf School.” I guess that qualification can mean anything to AWSNA now. Never mind the details on how as “Associated School” is not a fully accredited school or how far this can be removed from the most basic tenants of Waldorf and still claim to be “Waldorf-inspired.”

Steiner spoke out strongly against Marxist theory, which was so in vogue during his time among intellectuals. Indeed, his theosophical system of thought is a DIRECT challenge to Marx’s concept of historical materialism.

“The steps taken by the Church Fathers towards the abolition of the spirit were carried a stage further by Marx and Engels in their comprehensive attempt to abolish the soul. According to the materialistic theory of history spiritual impulses are of no account, the driving forces of history are material forces or economic factors — the struggle for material wellbeing. What appertains to the soul is simply a superstructure on the solid foundation of material processes. It is important to recognize the genuine catholicity of Marx and Engels and to note in these aspirations of the nineteenth century the true consequence of the abolition of the spirit. […]
It will not be long before decrees are promulgated in several States declaring that those who take seriously the existence of the soul are not of sound mind, and only those will be regarded of sound mind who recognize the ‘truth’, namely that thinking, feeling and willing are the necessary by-products of certain physiological processes.” – Steiner 3/27/17

“There are innumerable examples of the same kind where people will accept obvious nonsense simply on authority and yet in our days there is much talk of the laying aside of all authority — people say that they are no longer credulous of’ authority. Yet as a matter of fact if they had been so credulous it would have been quite impossible for the Marxian-Socialistic world conception to arise in our epoch, for it is far more credulous of authority even than ancient Catholicism!” – Steiner 9/27/19

I agree that one of the fundamental requisites for any approach to education, political theory, etc, should be one of flexibility. I also certainly like the fact that AWSNA does not claim to have the authority to micromanage the internal decisions of individual schools.

But listing a school as an “Associate Waldorf School” when it’s glorifying Marx and Mao as an inspiration while claiming your education is “Waldorf-inspired”? Come on!!

Thanks much for that eye-opening post. A certified Waldorf teacher once told me that YIHS is “terrible” and now I’m understanding why.

Now I know where this boil (shaming the Kulaks on Main St. etc) had it’s inception, and HOW. What dove-tails perfectly with all of this in a CENTRAIZED ideology/philosophy that has “benevolent” supremacist/totalitarian ideas about themselves. There is “Thought-policing” etc .Very simply put, Bad theology that feeds the ego empty “power”, and denies the Wisdom of the Holy Fathers ,and Saints. Puffing up, and tearing away children to sactificial ( but “virtuous”) chemical-HIGHS of “self-actualizations” , like their voracious parents , breaking eggs for collective omelets of drones “for the greater good”. This feeds the passions, and doing so has eternal tragic consequences. Look and see who, and what Fredrich Rittlemeyer, and R. Steiner were inspired by. PS: I have been intensely interested in Russia and Soviet history for many years. Could easily have ended up going down the track of being a prof of Russian history, had it not been for the language barrier…….

        11. Russian “history” has been being re-written at a break-neck pace since the late 1800’s, placing it’s stake at 1917, and passing straight through the 90’s (yes , w/ blips, and doc.dumps of truth careening through 1991-2020) to this very day, as you know. God bless Solzhenitsyn, but also historians like Antony Sutton, CJ Bjerknes, P. Klebnikov, Michael Hoffman, Yuri Bezmenov etc. Above all though, I thank the Lord for the Catacomb Saints , and the protectors like St. John Maximovich ,Fr. Seraphim Rose, too many to mention, but currently Fr. Peter Alban Heers (Orthodox Ethos). I have a copy of The Nikonian Chronicle Vol. II ,1132 ad- 1240 ad, that I would love to give to one interested in this. It was “edited”, and translated in 1976, so for me to add it to my reading list is impossible at this time. If you would like it, it’s yours. (almedhamorton (at) out look dot com )

        12. I know that there is much value within the book(NC Vol II), I just have too many ahead of it, and will probably continue in that condition. I’ve had it for years, and it is V.good HC condition, w/ protective sleeve over book jacket. Free to you .

Thanks for the book offer Gg Mo. Alas, I’m at the stage of my life where I’m doing a vast pruning of my own library and needing to avoid reading anything which isn’t on the A list
for what I want to learn (which is admittedly endless.) But thanks again for the offer!

There IS data, Kooter. Try sourcewatch.org: WILL “has accepted millions of dollars in grants from the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation…it is a member of the State Policy Network, a web of right-wing think tanks and tax-exempt organizations in 49 states, DC, Canada and the U.K.”

Dick, Alfred and VITW: I’m still waiting for the data to support Dick’s claim WILL is directly funded by the GOP. I have a feeling I’ll be waiting for a very long time. Calling me a “low information voter” is pretty humorous, actually. Regressives like you tend to resort to name calling and insults when challenged. I suggest in the future you temper your strong feelings with a bit of logic and facts before going forward, it helps with credibility.
