[Daily Caller reporter Richard] McGinnis saw a male (Joseph] Rosenbaum) initially try to engage the defendant. … there were other people very quickly … moving towards the defendant. … the defendant [Rittenhouse] was trying to evade these individuals.
The first video starts with people already chasing Rittenhouse, one of whom throws something at him. One person even fires a handgun in the air — and another, Rosenbaum, charges at Rittenhouse, who shoots him. After that, there are more shots from an unknown source, and Rittenhouse calls a friend on his phone and leaves.
But again he’s pursued, with some protesters urging others to join in, and this time he falls down. Several people move in on him, and he takes shots at three, hitting two. One is holding a handgun and survives a shot to the arm; the other has a skateboard and dies. Again there are additional mysterious gunshots after the fact.
Quite typically for a U.S. state, Wisconsin allows civilian use of deadly force when one “reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm.”

Why can anyone open carry a weapon like that? I’m curious as to how the KPD ir any law enforcement did not or could not take action on all of those who were doing open carry. I am not familiar with our WI open carry laws. I know we have concealed carry laws ….

Based on what I’ve seen, yes he acted in self defense.
He has two other problems outside that; an unsupervised minor in possession of a firearm, and leaving the State after the shooting.

He probably won’t be charged with Murder 1, but he will almost certainly be charged and convicted of something. He never should have been there: he had no military or police training that I know of, and almost certainly had no idea what to do if things got ugly. He’s ruined his own life, and killed two people— and for what? Kyle is not a hero, just a pudgy social misfit who should have stayed home and watched the riots on television. SMH.

To pick up a firearm and show up at one of these riots one must fully understand the ramifications of doing so. You are putting a bulls eye target on yourself because it’s quite likely the rioters won’t take kindly to you protecting a business that they want to destroy – we’ve seen it in nearly every riot that they attack the ones protecting businesses no matter who they are. You are assuming a huge responsibility that if something happens you might actually have to use that firearm in defense of your life or someone else’s life. You have to understand that if you use that firearm against another human being that you will carry the results of that personal choice with you for the rest of your life.
It take tremendous courage up front to choose to show up in opposition to an angry group of protesters that have shown turns into a morally bankrupt mob hell bent on destruction and assaults then you add in the fact that you’re carrying lethal force only adds to the level of courage to take this kind of stand against an immoral mob.

Well be prepared to give me a WIDE berth. (sorry) Kyle Rittenhouse and his group (from all that we know) went there to make a stand. They didn’t interfere with the protests, they didn’t seek any confrontations, they simply said ” You shall not destroy this business”. This is not “Proud Boys” or “Patriot Prayer” looking to engage protesters, these are AMERICANS making a stand against the greatest threat our nation has faced since the Civil War. MAKING A STAND is the most American “thing” there is. Lexington and Concord, Shiloh and Antietam,…… (cue the music). Maybe the problem is TO MANY people just “staying home, and watching the riots on television”. This “pudgy social misfit” repeatedly stepped away from his group to offer first-aid to protesters, and, according to the article, was talking to Police when he was told he could not rejoin his group. This left this young man alone, vastly outnumbered, and several blocks away from friendly lines in Wisconsin’s version of Mogadishu. They would have beaten him to death and taken his weapon, there IS no doubt about that. Making a stand is dangerous, most are afraid to do it. But in the near future I fear many of us will be called on to protect this nation from the “peaceful” rioters. Information is limited, the situation is fluid, maybe I’ll have to eat my words, but I said it.

Self-defense on all counts. He will be guilty of underage rifle-holding and leaving the State. But the sentiment is with him and sentencing will be……….interesting.
This DOES raise the question: when LE is incapable, or ordered to ‘stand down’, should citizens simply watch teeeeeveeee and let it all burn?

The unstated issue is that the Governor Evers DID NOT call in the National Guard in sufficient numbers that were required to stop the riots and destruction despite the FACT that the local authorities begged him to give them that kind of support! The violence only stopped after Congressman Bryan Steil called President Trump and asked him to help out by sending federal authorities to augment the local police and the 250 National Guard troops that the governor sent. This never would have happened if the governor had SOME BALLS and showed real leadership on the first night of rioting by sending in the National Guard in sufficient numbers to stop the violence.
But this is to be expected by governor MILK TOAST! After all, if it is okay to have the State Capitol defaced, windows smashed in, statutes thrown into the lake, State Senators assaulted, stores looted, Police Officers assaulted, innocent people assaulted and the City County building fire bombed, all in your own back yard while you as governor did NOTHING to stop it even while knowing in advance it was going to happen; well why would anyone think he would give a crap about Kenosha!
It all goes to show how little he thinks of WE the People, who are in his mind, the Little People!
Just shut up and pay your taxes and it will all be okay. That is what the Dem’s like Evers want all of us to believe.

I agree. A weak, Satya-esque response only emboldens these protesters. Maybe young Kyle wouldn’t have felt that he was needed in Kenosha, had the authorities been willing and able to restore order.

Of course Kyle Rittenhouse is a HERO. He stepped into the void created by the absence of the government protection of life, property rights and limb, and when pushed into a corner he took action. Action is long overdue. Older MEN should be ashamed that it took a boy to rise to the occasion. I predict Kyle will be long-remembered as a young hero who showed the way.

Young Kyle had no idea what he was getting into that night in Kenosha. I doubt very much if he had answers to these questions, or had even thought about them:
“If rioters seek to destroy a business that I do not own, can I use deadly force?”

I’ll agree that he wanted to help and should be applauded for his commitment to law and order, but he – 17 years old, with no military or police training – had no idea how to respond to the dangerous, highly fluid situations that he encountered.
He’s not a hero, nor is he a villain. He’s a misguided kid who wasn’t ready for “prime time” and should have stayed home. Lest anyone think I’m a gun-grabber, I’ve been a life member of the NRA since May of 1973 and am retired from the Army, 30 years of service.

Take the time to check out all the reports from people on the ground etc.
It appears 2 or 3 involved had guns, the one who was shot in the arm has a pistol stuck in his grip, because he can’t let go, due to extensive muscle and nerve damage. 3- 4 people who were together with the 3 shot had guns at one time during the night. Rittenhouse was also hit with a skateboard. With what has happened over the last few months only a fool wouldn’t fear for their life.
Look up the story on Rittenhouse and what he was doing during the day and why he was down there.
Don’t be a twit like Evers, and jump to conclusions.
