It looks like boarded-up windows and smashed statutes. It sounds like F-bombs and ambulance sirens. It’s made Downtown Madison a No-Go zone.
After the Madison police union’s overwhelming (95%) vote of No Confidence, Satya Rhodes Conway accuses police of “failing to embrace change.”
“We are in a time of change – our community is demanding oversight and accountability; our community is demanding reform and leadership that is able to reimagine policing. … It is extremely unfortunate that the Madison Professional Police Officers Association (MPPOA) has failed to realize the importance of this time, and is sowing division.”

We Stand With The Madison Police Department reacted:
Oh my, Mayor. We are embarrassed for you today. In response to the vote of no confidence, we see denial of responsibility of the Mayor of her role in creating both community division and employee dissatisfaction.
The person afraid of change is YOU. Afraid to get involved in anything positive when it comes to your own police department. Afraid to facilitate community dialogue with the department when they ask you to do so in order to move the community forward. Afraid to abandon your ludicrous attempts to reopen police contracts because you screwed up the budget to begin with due to overly lofty transportation goals.
The person sowing division is YOU. You’re the one who views your own employees as something to garner public distrust of, to lay blame on.
True leaders take responsibility for discord and employee dissatisfaction. True leaders step forward when given the opportunity to bridge the gap between communities and police.
You might want to stop, Satya. While you’re only very, very behind.
‘The city council makes everything worse’
Former mayor Dave Cieslewicz is up with a post today, before news of the No Confidence vote reached him.
As quoted in the Wisconsin State Journal, Ald. Rebecca Kemble, who represents District 18, called State Street “the whitest neighborhood in the city” and said that providing this assistance is “quite literally institutional racism.”
Cieslewicz continues:
It’s hard to know where to begin with statements like those, but let’s start with the facts, which she has wrong. The downtown is not the whitest neighborhood in the city. According to the city’s own Neighborhood Indicators project, the neighborhoods around State Street are a little over 80% white. In fact, about two dozen neighborhoods in the city are even less diverse. The whitest neighborhood in the city?Cherokee at 94.6%. Kemble should have known that as Cherokee is in her own district. …
It seems significant that three of the council’s most senior and respected Black members — Council President Sheri Carter, Ald. Barbara Harrington-McKinney and Ald. Samba Baldeh — were among the six members who voted for the compromise to provide assistance for both State Street and Black-owned businesses.

Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that influence people but are unknown to the greater public. Sources tell Batman that Satya’s wife has threatened to leave her if she deviates from her hard line positions that are informed by the local chapters of Marxist Inc. plus she would lose all her friends. Unless you have walked a mile in another’s shoes do not pretend to understand their challenges.

That’s actually irrelevant to those looking for results and instead getting rationalizing excuses. If Satya tries to use that whining immature rationalization any opposing politician that has a shred of integrity will publicly shred her for it; but then again, this is the duly elected Madison Mayor Satya that’s already shown us that she is rather immature, politically irrational and rationalizes so I guess this would be more of the same.
I think it’s clear that the majority of Madison voters wanted a social justice warrior progressive in the Mayors office instead of a hard core Liberal and that’s exactly what the majority of voters voted for; I think there is a bit of voters remorse happening in Madison these days.
Even though Soglin has become a bit more moderate as he’s aged, likely so he could better bridge the gap between hard left and hard right, his standard fare Madison Liberal views could almost be viewed as almost moderate Conservative compared to these extreme progressive lefty wackos. Yes, the wacko progressives have pushed the pendulum that far left.
Everyone should be openly honest with yourself and ask yourself this rhetorical question; knowing what you know right now, if you had to choose between Mayor Satya and Soglin in a mayoral election today, who would you choose?

L’il gal, might be time to put down the double 1/4’r pounder (3), get a bra that’s comfortable and stop hangin’ with juvenile murderers. Then start to listen to your constituents -and your colleagues in the MPD. Might try a hand at leading the Common Council, too. Their last vote on the State Street recovery was puerile.

Does not every elected official in Wisconsin and darn near every public official in the United States have to swear an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of their own state and to faithfully execute all the laws of their community, state and country?
In fact the official oath that most public officials in Wisconsin take reads something like as follows:
I,________, having been elected or appointed to the office of __________,swear (or affirm) that I will support the constitution of the United States and the constitution of the State of Wisconsin, and will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of said office to the best of my ability.
So help me God.

Has Mayor Satya done that? Has Joe Parisi done that? Has Sheriff Mahoney done that? Has Governor Evers done that?
We expect some 18 year old kid joining the military to stand at attention, hold up their right hand and swear: “I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
That means if they tell you to “take that hill”, you take it or die trying. Why then do we expect less from our public officials than we do some 18 year old joining the military? Why are we allowing our elected officials to make excuses and allow a paramilitary invasion of marxists destroy our cities, our states and our country?

I am a relative newbie to your site. I was a lifelong dem until the 2nd week of Obama’s first term, when he announced his financial cabinet would consist of the same banksters that tanked the economy I became disgusted with Ms. Conway’s administration when she trotted out the snitch squads for enforcement of ‘essential’ businesses, social distancing and, the final straw, walking dogs in an ‘unauthorized’ park. Capped it off with her lack of support for the police and put the exclamation point on it with $500k for the local implementation of the UN’s Vision Zero initiative, while she is trying to cut everyone else’s budget.
