Need more plywood on Bascom Hill, STAT!
Madison is in the grips of a mob. Its is axiomatic of mobs that the greater their size and more virulent their anger — the more stupid their activity.
The sheriff says downtown Madison is not safe after 4 p.m. The mayor tells police to stand down. State legislators are assaulted. Statues of civil rights heroes are pulled down and dragged through the streets. Stores are boarded up. Merchants are too frightened to sign their names to ask for help. Chronic criminals are new heroes.
Bad enough to tear down an abolitionist who gave his life fighting slavery during the Civil War. Now the idiots want Abraham Lincoln’s bronzed hide — the statue seated in front of the seat of the University of Wisconsin’s Madison campus, Bascom Hall. Here is the quote of the day from the leader of UW-Madison’s Black Student Union:
“Just because he was anti-slavery
doesn’t mean he was pro-Black.”
⇒ Retired UW law prof Ann of Althouse: I’m reading the news report at Channel 3000 with near disbelief. This is not like the Lincoln statue in Washington D.C. that has been deemed problematic because he’s looming over figure of a slave like he’s such a big shot “Emancipator.”
An on-line petition says Lincoln’s “questionable” history on race relations. It also states that the wrong people donated for the statue — one or two of them were ‘racist.’
Folks, these are university students! Not unwashed and deplorable Trump supporters. Because, you see, the taxpayer-subsidized students enjoying the college life leafy and flowered UW-Madison campus need a grievance because they have been taught they are victims.
Very few can pass through the eye of the needle wielded by today’s social justice warriors. Like totalitarians from Nazi Germany to Stalin’s show trials, they demand impossible purity of thought, word and deed.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Tommy Thompson, you’ve got your work cut out for you. The rot on the Capitol Square began in places like Bascom Hill.

Excellent idea Steve, although I would suspect the response would look like a typical MMSD school board meeting. The only media coverage would be a poorly made video of the mayor condemning the actions of out of touch and unsympathetic counter protesters.

Apparently the person who is starting this half baked petition was somehow unaware of the statue when she applied to the University. Although it’s pretty prominent statue.
I hope that the Chancellor sums the ghost of Ed Young. When he was in charge he did not put up such foolishness.
Without Lincoln there probably would have been the land grant colleges.
What status is next on their agenda? Bucky Badger??

Ever notice that many of the people who said Trump would destroy America are out looting, burning, beating people and destroying America and the anti-Trumpers that aren’t physically looting, burning, beating people and destroying America are supporting the rioters with dollars, food, transportation, rationalizations justifying the destruction, calling off the police, and media coverage?

If they are going after the bronze of slave-emancipator Lincoln, then they probably aren’t big fans of Lincoln’s wish for government “of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

If you think things are crazy now, wait until tens of thousands of UW students return in the fall and are immediately dragooned by the likes of BLM, the Black Students Union, et al. The Lincoln statue is only their highest profile target. Soon half the buildings on campus will be rebranded because their namesakes were racists. Amazingly, the usually spineless administrators have–for now– said no to the destruction of the Lincoln statue, but I predict a mob will tear him down anyway while the UW police do what they do best–stand around scratching their asses.

Gee whiz Mayor, your citizens can’t go downtown once the rioters wake up. No merchant can expect customers if they don’t pay Yeshua for protection. Madison’s historical icons are smashed the downtown has been murdered. The cops are scared to death and rightly so.
And uber Progressive Mayor’s messages are just “more mush from the wimp.”
