‘Who is boining, who is boining … effigies’
— Creedence Clearwater Revival
As the Russians said during the last years of communism, “Never before has our history been so unpredictable.”
If we know this city’s social justice warriors (and we do, although not in a biblical sense), the nihilists are at this moment arguing which statue requires a good-old toppling here in the Autonomous Zone of Madison WI. To Antifa and their adherents, smashing the state starts with a statue. (So there’s your alliteration for the day.)
Whiskey for my men
It’s one thing to take down statues glorifying Confederate generals. Richmond Va. is fighting the courts to remove General Bobby Lee and the horse he road in on. But the North is finding it tough to find sufficient slavers. Frustrated George Floyd protesters in Philadelphia whacked an abolitionist.
Col. Hans Christian Heg — Wisconsin’s unknown Norwegian — has already been defaced. Never mind that he died in the Civil War against slavery. The Madison mob also smeared Miss Forward. Why? Probably because she was there and they had paint.
Portland toppled George Washington, who freed the slaves. Well, his slaves, anyway. And saw that they got an education. Universities don’t teach history any more, they teach grievance. (Memo to Tommy T.)
San Francisco knocked U.S. Grant off his high horse. (General Grant defeated the confederacy and ended slavery. President Grant crushed the KKK and started schools for the newly freed slaves.) Which is more than Brandi Grayson or M. Adams ever did. More here.
Goodbye, Columbus Ohio
Again in San Francisco, city fathers (oops — mothers, too) removed a statue of Christopher Columbus from Coit Tower before protesters could throw it in the Bay. Cristoforo Colombo may have sailed the ocean blue but now he’s going to get good and wet! Statue of Father Junipero Serra (who pretty much founded the town) is gone, too. Whatever happened to Que Serra, serra?
Columbus Ohio is removing its statue of guess who in favor of guess what? (The “what” is “Diversity and Inclusion.”)
Strange that diversity and inclusion require intolerance and destruction!
The American Taliban is especially frustrated in Buffalo N.Y. Best they could do was vandalize the Our Lady of Fatima shrine. (“Cured lots of people, but the good, they die young.) More history: The KKK hated Catholics, too.
No gravestone, monument, marker, or plinth is safe from the judgment of those who have achieved — like Carl Spackler in Caddyshack — Total Consciousness. Gunga galunga…gunga, gunga-lagunga.
Back here in the Automaton’s zone (did we spell that correctly?), the City of Madison WI has already removed the original granite grave marker from the northernmost cemetery of Confederate prisoners of war. For that is all it was — 140 names and the simple inscription:
“Erected in loving memory by United Daughters of the Confederacy to Alice Whiting Waterman and ‘her boys.’”
This ‘Madison’ guy …
The lady in question was a local woman who cared for the burial grounds, eventually enlisting the help of veteran soldiers from the Union cause — including Gov. Lucius Fairchild, who lost an arm at Gettysburg. (“Madison rewrites history.”) No “unsung heroes.” No “fought with valor.” Just 140 names to supplant the second generation of weathered out wooden markers. (The individual grave markers that can be seen today came later.)
Then again, after whom is our fair city named? Sure, he wrote the U.S. Constitution and served as President. But he never did Massah Madison free his slaves. A relative bragged, according to one biography, that it had been many a year since a slave was flogged at Monticello.
Then there are all those streets named after the Founders, white men like the Pinckneys of S. Carolina and Pierce Butler (Rhett’s old man?) … Don’t the Progressives give a damn?!
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Still, in all, Black Lives Matter, Antifa, Freedom Inc., and the Marxists need to up their game. Consider Britain’s King Charles II who, upon restoration of the Stuart dynasty, pulled old Oliver Cromwell from his cold clammy grave — dead two full years — hung him in chains and (as Cromwell had done to Charles I) beheaded cadaver Cromwell.
Now THAT is getting even with history!
