Car not stolen
Inside information. One of the victims belongs to my family. A 26-year old man with a bright future ahead of him and two children that he took very well care of.I understand you’re a “blogger” so you say whatever that comes to mind… it’s not your fault that this city has a problem with car theft..
But this sir, wasn’t one of those cases. This car wasn’t stolen they were a group of young men not teenagers that were having a good time on a Saturday night.
Ain’t no way in hell they should have been speeding but this so happens to be the outcome. There are family’s hurting from this, including my own. I just ask that everyone please check facts instead of labeling them bad people just because they’re young black men. Sadly you still won’t understand.RIP to my cousin! He was a stand-up man that did all that he could to raise his children right. He deserves to rest peacefully and that, he will do!!!

Found this on the neighborhood site: “So I have a little news I can share, but no names. Info came from a friend of the 2 of the young men. All 4 were in their twenty’s, all close friends, 2 were cousins. Just poor decision making of no seat belts & high rate of speed. Car belonged to the presumed driver. All were local, but have family spread out, so notifications are still being made as of yesterday.”
Madison Police and Fire were called to a single vehicle crash at Northport Drive and Packers Avenue Friday night (11:48 p.m. 03-20-2020) that killed four. At least some of them had been ejected from the vehicle. Madison Police Lt. Kipp Hartman called the accident scene “very traumatic.”
MPD worked with crash scene investigators, WI State Patrol, Dane County Medical Examiners Office and outside agencies to process the scene and identify the victims. The investigation is still ongoing as victims are ID’d and victims families are notified. Northport Dr was shut down and traffic was rerouted for approximately 5 hours during the investigation.
A police support source said witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling 100 mph before it left the roadway and struck a tree.
“It is unconfirmed, but we are told several of the deceased were well known to law enforcement, having been arrested multiple times in relation to stolen vehicle cases,” that source said.

For purposes of this comment, I am going to assume that the unnamed police source is telling the truth, that at least some of the deceased are known to the police for prior car thefts. If these young people had been prosecuted for their prior car thefts and then incarcerated or electronically tagged, they would be alive today. We are looking at a system that goes too far in terms of leniency. If one were to look at the old Borstal system in the UK (and I’m speaking specifically of actual Borstal, not the abusive “approved schools” or “training schools”), there was a very low recidivism rate, and the kids were forced to learn reading, math, and other subjects.
No doubt these kids, given the location of this accident, had also attended middle school at either Sherman or Black Hawk, and high school at East. I’ve had kids at all of these schools, and the unruly, abusive, physically assaultive students who also destroy their classmates’ property are given a free pass at these schools. Had there been earlier consequences, perhaps these kids would still be alive.
Are the parents of these now deceased young people married? Were they married when they had these now deceased youngsters? Have the parents of these young people been incarcerated? For what sort of crimes? Do any of the parents of these young people have a criminal history of theft or robbery convictions? What sort of “supervision” did these young people have by parents, The System, or others? Did these young people have a history of truancy? If so, what was the response of their parents? How had the parents responded to the prior instances of car theft? Have the parents of these deceased young people ever read books to their kids? How frequently? When? What involvement has The System previously had in their lives? Were any Dane County judges, prosecutors, social workers, guardians at litem, etc., ever in a position to remove them from their parents and put them in a structured situation but failed to exercise that authority? If so, who were they? Which Dane County players in The System failed to act and now have blood on their hands?

I think that it is also important to note some of the other recent incidents in Madison involving car theft. For instance, the Madison police have released an incident report stating that the night before this crash,
“A SUV stolen during a burglary on Marathon Dr. was recovered last night in the 500 block of Northport Dr. The Ford Escape was unoccupied and parked in an apartment complex lot. Knowing it was stolen, officers began to observe it to see if anyone would come back to it. Two women did. One, Jenaya M. Smith, age 19, Madison, had the keys to the Escape. She claimed to have purchased the Ford, but said she was too high at the time to remember who the seller was. She was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without owner’s consent and felony bail jumping. The SUV was stolen from the garage of a Marathon Dr. home last Friday.”
A quick review of CCAP shows a very lengthy traffic history for the 19-year-old Ms. Smith, plus the fact that she was out on bail in a 2020 felony case in which she has been charged with 5 counts of forgery.

Then again, does it really matter? Can one protect people from their own ignorance? History is instructive.

The only mention of the victim’s being black was posted by the talented Florenzo, who claims he’ll continue to fight for people, with but one caveat.
If those people’s skin color is melanin-challenged, the deal’s off!

Aisha & Felicia, I sincerely apologize for leaping to conclusions about this sorrowful incident. No excuses. I extend my condolences, as I should have yesterday. Best hopes for you the families. It is a tragedy that none survived. Stay safe and well.

Driving 100 mph at the location where the crash happened makes you a bad person in my book. Just lucky no one other than people in the speeding car were injured or killed.

If this was truly some young men out partying and going 100mph seemed like a good time why has it taken almost 3 weeks for the police to release their report? I am always skeptical when police hold back. Unless there is way more than meets the eye.
