Leftist law profs helped Trump

American law schools are notoriously Leftist

The Never-Trump Resistance is fretting that the Jerry Nadler Show on Wednesday (12-04-19) didn’t sell any laundry detergent. That’s because the three law profs called by the Democrats were entirely partisan and unsympathetic.

The three law profs had their snoots so high in the stratosphere they fairly whistled. You’ve got to wonder what the three dozen or so Democrats elected from Trump districts are hearing from the Deplorables back home.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Florida, eviscerated the three partisan law profs, particularly Pamela S. Karlan of Stanford University.

Prof Karlan
Prof Karlan, center

Karlan is the one who dragged the President’s 13-year-old son into the mire.

“Contrary to what President Trump has said, Article 2 [of the Constitution] does not give him the power to do anything he wants. The Constitution says there can be no titles of nobility, so while the president can name his son Barron, he can’t make him a baron.”

Doesn’t get much more arrogant

Gaetz revealed that Karlan donated $2,000 to Elizabeth Warren, $1,200 to Barack Obama, and $2,000 to Hillary Clinton. The prof also appeared on a Resistance podcast called “Versus Trump.” Karlan once wrote this:

“Liberals tend to cluster more, conservatives tend to spread out more — perhaps because they don’t even want to be around themselves.”

Ann of Althouse is a retired constitutional law prof at UW-Madison. Ms. Althouse blogs:

What I like about that Instapundit commenter quote — “It’s always a constitutional crisis when liberals don’t get what they want” — is that it seems to me that the real impeachable offense has always been that Donald Trump got himself elected.

Schools of liberal law

Liberal Law schools“It’s extremely hard to persuade Republicans if the people trying to do the persuading are Democrats,” David Leonhardt worries in this morning’s New York Times. “And yet House Democrats didn’t call a single conservative legal scholar as a witness yesterday to make the case for impeachment.”
Problem is, America’s schools of law — like academia in general — is a monoculture of the Left. The Grievance Studies and Sociology departments are not outliers. Journalism, the liberal arts, schools of education and — especially, the law schools — are hotbeds of “Woke” thinking.
A 2017 study (reported here) by four academics from prestigious universities found that the majority of faculty at 47 of the top 50 law schools are liberal, progressive, or socialist. The study measured campaign contributions to partisan political candidates.
Wisconsin appears to be the most one-sided.
Leonhardt quotes Russell Berman of The Atlantic:

This hearing was never going to change minds … [It] seemed a microcosm of that political debate and of the impeachment process that, to the chagrin of Trump’s critics, has failed to transcend it.

What do YOU think?

  1. As Jack Marshall so eloquently put it on Ethics Alarms; “As the three buffoons [Noah Feldman, Pamela Karlan, Michael Gerhardt] proved, there is only one side of that “argument,” and Turley had it. They were disgraceful.”

As far as I can tell, left in general is 100% consumed by anti-Trump bias.

I read all of Turley’s written statement this morning you all can read it here.

    WELL DONE PROFESSOR!!!

What I saw on ABC evening news was only a short token quote from Turley near the end of the segment and the rest of the considerable time devoted to the hearings was spent sharing the opinions of the other three. It was 100% clear that ABC news was promoting one side of the argument.

The few segments that I had a chance to watch live yesterday were interesting, Turley was destroying the left’s “arguments” but the other three just kept spewing illogical and emotional arguments. At one point Professor Pamela Karlan, of Stanford University, said that when Trump asked Ukraine to do “us” a favor, he really meant a personal favor. This is how the anti-Trumpers are twisting actual evidence into what their bias tells them is true not what the facts dictate; they are reading things between the lines that are literally not there and saying one word mean what they clearly do not mean and their faithful anti-Trump sheep eat it all up as fact. At one point there was video presented into evidence of testimony presented from the previous hearings from people sharing their opinions that what President Trump did in the phone call was impeachable and the videos were stated to be “facts” when in fact they were only opinions. This impeachment is 100% political. I predict that the Democrats will impeach President Trump in the House along party lines and the whole thing will come crashing down on the Democrats head in a Senate trial.

From my upper mid-west perch this is how I’ve seen the political left since November 2016; in the minds of the political left, they view the Constitution as “the system”, so if “the system” won’t allow them to remove President Trump then they see “the system” as being what’s wrong. I firmly believe that the Democrats, progressives in particular, are actively constructing their hill to die on, I honestly think they want to bring down the entire system.

Regardless of the outcome of this ludicrous impeachment process or the outcome of the election in 2020 I’m think the proverbial shit is going to hit the fan after the November 2020 election.

As someone who was on the front lines, advocating for local law enforcement, I found this to be true. Just replace “anti-Trumpers” with “cop haters.”

Always like reading your stuff, by the way.

      Today’s WaPo Margaret Sullivan column:

“Wall-to-Wall Impeachment Coverage Is Not Changing Any Minds. Here’s How Journalists Can Reach The UNDECIDED”

Anyone that can fog a mirror knows the minds they’re trying to reach are pretty much THESE.

If Lefty’s not reaching them now, their problems are FAR greater than they believe.

      @AnonyBob;

The mercilessly severe hammering to which Lefty’s been embarrassingly subjected, while highfreakin’larious to the casual observer, can’t be personally pleasant.

But reacting in the MANNER you’ve chosen, combined with the complete abdication of a fact-based reality, does not a pretty picture paint.

Lefty respectful of the Constitution? Are you that effin’ clueless?

The journey’s complete; You-n-Reality have finally become opposite poles, and ne’er the twain shall meet!

No Bob, your statement is ludicrous, it didn’t need to be “fixed”. “American law schools are notoriously Leftist” was accurate and there are studies that show this to be true. In fact here is the study that the link Dave provided refers to, so Dave actually backed up his claim with something concrete; I’d like to see you back up your statement in a similar manner. These kind of studies do show overwhelming statistical trends that cannot be denied. Give the study a read if you think your mental midgetry critical thinking process can handle the details.

Consider this reply to be the end of your feeble-minded trolling deflection.

It’s hard to see how law schools can be respectful of anything except leftist ideology given the fact that conservative viewpoints have been systematically excluded from that arena. A good portion of learning to become a lawyer is to anticipate logical arguments from one’s opponents and to strategize the most effective ways to counter them. If students are never exposed to viewpoints that contradict leftist orthodoxy, how are they supposed to become effective practitioners of the law? But then again faculty in practically every discipline in American colleges and universities today have prioritized indoctrinating the principles of “social justice” over teaching anything connected with the traditions and standards of their discipline. Not only are colleges leftist “monocultures”; they’ve morphed into evangelistic cults dedicated to propagating the most radical and destructive tenets of leftist ideology. And this was allowed to happen with barely a peep of protest. It will be a thousand times harder to reverse this toxic trend than it would have been to prevent it in the first place.

On the subject of superlative adjectives (Gaetz eviscerates), U.W. alum (GO BADGERS) HoR Jim Jordan (R-OH) positively EXCORIATES the pompously suffocating Professor Karlen, making the BBC’s devastating Prince Andrew interview seem like a slow lob.

Ah Lefty; so MUCH humiliating ignominy, so little time!

Five minutes of my life never passed so quickly, and as one who prefers reading to VIDS, that’s an understatement. Gaetz emasculates each and every one of these puzzlewits -quickly and decisively.

Meanwhile, worthy Congressional biz is cast aside for a truly partisan (& useless) segue.

The stupid part about the leftist professor’s testimony was the notion that they were giving legal justification for impeachment. One of the clowns made the comment that, “If these actions by President Trump are not impeachable, then nothing is impeachable.”

    He had it exactly wrong.

Everything is an impeachable offense. Impeachment is a POLITICAL action, not a legal one. You can impeach a President for spitting on the sidewalk if you want to. You don’t have to have a “legal” justification. You just have to have the votes, the will to follow through and the willingness to accept the judgement of the voters afterwards.

What about the facts? Cry all you want, crying won’t help you. The GOP argument is hollow. No one is above the law. What would the reaction be to a different president doing the same actions?

      M. Olson;

      “What about the facts?”

There are any number of facts; which ones, please be specific.

      “Cry all you want,”

      Who’s crying?

      “crying won’t help you.”

      Couldn’t agree more.

“No one is above the law.”

Hillarity TWEETED that very sentiment, and in a cruel twist of fate…um…hilarity ensued.

“What would the reaction be to a different president doing the same actions?”

With an eye toward the consistency an ethical approach requires, I would hope the same way, if a tad more subdued; 3 point home team/court advantage-n-all…
