Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

High school brawl; drunk teenager steals car and causes injury accident

For your consideration
in a No Bad Names city where police bear monitoring

Another high school brawl broke out Thursday (10-31-19) — multiple brawls, actually. This time at East High School. Two “adult” family members joined in, so you know it was not spontaneous. Ten police were needed to break it up.  One student experienced what the acting principal euphemistically calls “a medical emergency.”

Madison police report:

East High School’s school resource officer requested backup yesterday as multiple disturbances broke out in the cafeteria over the noon hour. An initial fight involving three students evolved into a couple confrontations between other students. Parents of one student involved in the fighting were part of the conflict, although it is not clear either actively battered anyone.

One student, who was part of the disruptions, suffered a medical emergency and was taken to a hospital as a precaution. The SRO is in the process of reviewing surveillance video and talking with witnesses. No arrests have yet been made, but her investigation is ongoing. A total of ten MPD officers responded to the cafeteria to help restore decorum.

Five people injured when drunk teen crashes stolen car

From the WI State Journal: At least five people were injured in a crash Thursday morning on Highway 51 in the town of Dunn caused by a teen driving a stolen vehicle while intoxicated, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The four-vehicle crash happened during Thursday’s snowstorm about 9:10 a.m. when the driver of a southbound 2011 Ford Edge that had been reported stolen from Stoughton lost control and crossed into the northbound lane of Highway 51, hitting a Chevrolet Astro minivan head-on, and then spinning into a Volkswagen Jetta and a Chrysler Sebring that also were northbound, public information officer Elise Schaffer said in a statement.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, Jakel D. Jones, 17, of Fitchburg, was arrested on a tentative charge of operating while intoxicated, causing injury, and additional charges are possible, Schaffer said.

The crash closed Highway 51 for about 90 minutes.

Madison schools still zero tolerance  …

… for some people, anyway. “After reinstatement, Madison School District reiterates use of racial slurs by staff is not tolerated.”

Petition the Madison School Board:

e-mail iconIs the school board going to apologize to Marlon Anderson, as the entertainer Cher demands? Are you going to restore the jobs of other teachers who used the N-word in an instructional manner? Are you going to re-instate Mr. Rob at Whitehorse M.S. who only followed the district’s discipline policies to the T? Are you going to reverse behavior policies that disempower teachers in their classrooms?

How many wake up calls do our city leaders need? A minor drinking on a Thursday morning in a stolen car causing an accident?Beyond ridiculous! Thankfully no one was killed! A brawl in a high school not caused by staff or police & still they think police are the problem. If anything it shows we need more law enforcement & not a darn BRT!!

This kid had a load on @09:10 freakin’ a.m.! Sheesh; what time did he start?

East? My Dear 94 1/2 year old Father was a Purgolder/Class of ’43.

Anywho, these “adult” family members must have great jobs (like the ones that descended upon Leopold Middle School last March) if they have the…um…freedom to just pick up and head on over to mix it up in the middle of a work day, am I right?

I’ll be glad to give you the short answer to your flurry of questions at the end of today’s post: No, no, no & no. Do you really expect the self-righteous twits on the MSB to admit that their “zero tolerance” policy on racial slurs is fatally flawed and that re-thinking their arbitrary, ill-informed decisions is even remotely an option? But then again, why should they? The racial/ethnic/gender make-up of the Board is so exquisitely diverse that anyone who has the audacity to criticize it must be (drum roll, please) RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYCIST!

I think DB is being rhetorical GLK but your “short answer” works too.

Great timing. They’re petitioning for money again. I’d love to support “the schools” and “the teachers.” But we all know where the money will actually go. Sad.

I know it has already been said – but no,no,no and no!

Seriously – will the school board even mention this brawl at a meeting? Darn that school resource officer! Her being there, clearly intimidated those young innocent children causing the initial stress that likely caused the incident. Oh my gosh!

Blaska – I appreciate the petitions you set up – it makes it easy to send to the school board and mayor. I just went back and sent another one to the Mayor regarding the need for police. Thanks
