Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

Donald Trump is drinking progressives’ milk shake

He’s the straw that stirs the drink

UPDATE: Not to be left behind, Madison Common Council considers banning plastic straws. Story here.

My friends who are Trump supporters (which is to say, most of my friends) echo Abraham Lincoln. Enemies of U.S. Grant encouraged the Great Emancipator to cashier the general. Lincoln responded, “But he fights.”

I drink your milkshake
‘I drink your milkshake’

Donald Trump fights, sometimes unnecessarily, sometimes counter-productively. But he plays offense, which is the best defense. The man has an unerring sense of poking his adversaries’ soft under bellies with the sharpest of sticks, then cackling with delight at their pavlovian howls of outrage.

You fashion yourself a sanctuary city? We’ll ship you busloads of sanctuary seekers. Ban plastic straws? Trump will sell you plastic straws (Made in America!) — far superior to your “liberal paper straws.” (Story in The Hill.)

Pack of 10 just $15 (“Cheap” as Mad Magazine [RIP] would say.) Hey, they’re reusable. Trump/Pence has sold over 140,000 plastic straws in just two days. You do the math. Vanity Fair is apoplectic:

Trump is now selling merchandise specifically designed
to destroy the environment

Yes, progressivism is a target-rich environment. On the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, The Nation magazine asks: “Is space flight colonialism?

Which is how, we are told, to understand Trump’s twitter tirade over The Squad. Make Nancy Pelosi jerk like frog legs on a plate of salt water to defend A.O.C., Omar, Tlaib, and Pressley. Trump wants to make “The Squad” (aka The Gang of Four) the face of the Democrat(ic) party.

It’s a trap!

“This is a trap for Democrats,” Gerald F. Seib writes in the Wall Street Journal. The journalist notes that Hillary lost the white workers who did not attend college “by a stunning 67% to 28% nationally.” These, of course, are her “deplorables” who gave Trump narrow victories in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

It’s less clear that the progressives now dominating the conversation can offer lessons in how to prevail in crucial swing states. A.O.C. … won in a district that is 57% more Democrat(ic) than is the nation overall.

Today (07-23-19) the House of Reps is scheduled to vote on Reps. Omar and Tlaib’s boycott, divest, and sanction resolution aimed squarely at Israel. Both Democrats are Muslim. Even most Democrats will vote against it, but most Democrats are not the face of the party. The Squad, if Trump has his way, is.

Wisconsin may go Trump again

Over at the rabidly anti-Trump New York Times, number cruncher Nate Cohn posits that the incumbent’s “advantage in the Electoral College, relative to the national popular vote, may be even larger than it was in 2016.”

For now, the mostly white working-class Rust Belt states, decisive in the 2016 election, remain at the center of the electoral map, based on our estimates. The Democrats have few obviously promising alternative paths to win without these battleground states. [Worse for Democrats,] The president’s approval ratings remain higher in the Sun Belt battlegrounds than in the Rust Belt, despite Democratic hopes of a breakthrough. …

In both Wisconsin and Florida, the president’s resilience seems grounded in two regions: the Milwaukee area and Miami-Dade County.

The president’s average approval rating in the Milwaukee media market stands at 48% — virtually unchanged from what it was in 2016, in a compilation of Marquette University polls since October. The president’s approval rating in Miami-Dade may even be better than his standing there in 2016.

More straws to break the camel’s back

Congratulations to Boris Johnson, the U.K.’s new prime minister. He joins Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil, Bibi Netanyahu in Israel, Matteo Salvini in Italy, Austria’s Sebastian Kurz, Hungary’s Viktor Orban, the Czechs’ Andrej Babis, Shinzo Abe in Japan, Andrzej Duda in Poland, and Scott Morrison in Australia (who beat back the climate change zealots).

For further study:Why Are Right-Wing Populists Winning Everywhere?”

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Will the Trump store offer mail-order Manholes? (Shipping extra.)

Like most inhabitants of the fact-based Universe, the highfreakin’larious Li’l AOC has invited Lefty’s wrath, and it ain’t purdy!

How far down has Lefty fallen? DAMN far, with no bottom in sight.

Big real real tough Lefties are now going after an 8,EIGHT!, year-old girl with, and I quote, DEATH THREATS!

Keep it up, Lefty; voters are watching!

Great insights in this article. I used to think Trump just had poor impulse control, but have come to believe that he knows exactly what he’s doing.

The only part I’d debate is this: “but most Democrats are not the face of the party.” Granted, I haven’t had an opportunity to talk to every single Democrat across the nation, and I do live in the bastion of Progressive insanity – so it can be tougher to make an informed decision about an entire party based on these criteria.

Yet I see a slate of Democratic presidential candidates who are mostly talking the talk, and Dems in other states being interviewed who sound an awful lot like our pols here. What else can one conclude? Sad that politics has gotten to this point.

Is space flight colonialism? Aside from Trump, who was it that cut funding for the space program? President Obama!

Maybe if there wasn’t so much damned government waste, we’d have money to spend on things that improved the greater good.

But hey, Progressives still wouldn’t be happy. They were the ones who used to say the government shouldn’t prioritize space research. And now that private entities are investing in it, they’re STILL complaining.

Comparing trump to Grant is folly. Grant won a war, trump still whines about his bone spurs. And even better, Grant was gracious in victory while cadet bone spurs is the worst winner evah ! And making that comparison certainly doesn’t enhance your credibility with folks that weren’t asleep during American History class.

After the 2016 election, Democrats had an opportunity to construct a strategy that would win back the white working class vote (or enough of it to swing the 2020 election in their favor). Instead they opted to keep peddling the snakeoil of identity politics, a decision that’s bringing the chickens home to roost–with a vengeance. Trump’s Twitter offensive against the 4DCs (see previous post) is succeeding wildly in unmasking the fanaticism of today’s Democrat party. By refusing to play by their rules–most importantly the one that says you may not under any circumstances criticize a person (especially a woman) of color no matter how absurd or offensive their pronouncements–the President has begun the long overdue process of restoring free speech in our political and social discourse. You’d think the 4DCs would have learned a lesson from the fate of Elizabeth Warren when she walked–eyes wide open–into another of Trump’s brilliantly laid traps, but then again the primary symptom of self-righteousness is blindness.

      Awesome analysis, Gary!

The primary symptom of sanctimony is indeed blindness. They can’t seem to see past their own egos & ignorance. They don’t recognize that it’s their own brand of snake oil that’s turning moderates (like myself) off and causing them to vote Republican.

There’s talk that they want to go even further to the left. While that may certainly appeal to their most primary base, I suspect most Americans aren’t that radical in their thinking.

Donald Trump is drinking progressives’ milk shake

He’s devouring, with impunity, their lunch and needs something with which to wash it down, am I right?

First the Stormy Daniels dismissal, and now Robert Mueller’s testimony “(was) your investigation curtailed or stopped or hindered?” His answer: ”NO!,” is nothing short of disastrous, for Lefty, leastways.

It was supposed to be the, you know, like Southern District of New York hanging the President out to dry with indictments galore…yet…(to paraphrase Robert Burns) “The best laid schemes o’ Rats an’ Lefties, Gang aft a-gley.” Pity, that!

Might someone check in on @richard lesiak, @AnonyBob, @hankdog/old baldy, et al, to make sure they aren’t swingin’ from a basement beam or opening their veins in a warm tub.

And I understand that Lefty’s been beaten like a red-headed step-child regularly, with considerable aplomb and extreme prejudice, but your hilariously convoluted thinking that shooting the messenger will make the real real mean message go away will only bring more of the same; IN SPADES!

Dealing with a fact-based reality like this and thinking the same approach will make things better?

      Priceless!
