More mud than light — One has to wonder why special prosecutor Robert Mueller made his statement today except to encourage Democrats to impeach Donald Trump. At least, he waited until Bill Barr was in Alaska.

The takeaway is his statement “If we had confidence Trump didn’t commit a crime [that being obstruction of justice] we would have said so.”

But the decision is binary: yes or no. On or off. $30 million and two years worth of subpoenas and grand jury testimony later, if his team could not find a provable crime there is no crime. Mueller’s cavil, that he did not declare a crime because he President cannot be prosecuted while in office,  was the case on Day One of Mueller’s probe. Was it all a fool’s errand?Compare with Ken Starr’s inquiry into Bill Clinton, wherein that special prosecutor said (in effect) He Did It.

Somehow, Mueller WAS able to say the Russians tried to influence the presidential election but that there was no collusion on the part of any Americans.

The entire Trump-Russia collusion narrative was always implausible —  Victor Davis Hanson in National Review:

1. Washington swamp of fixers such as Paul Manafort and John and Tony Podesta was mostly bipartisan and predated Trump.

2. Trump administration’s Russia policies were far tougher on Vladimir Putin than were those of Barack Obama. Trump confronted Russia in Syria, upped defense spending, increased sanctions, and kept the price of oil down through massive new U.S. energy production. He did not engineer a Russian “reset” or get caught on a hot mic offering a self-interested hiatus in tensions with Russia in order to help his own reelection bid.

3. Russia has a long history of trying to warp U.S. elections that predated Trump and that had earned only lukewarm pushback from the Obama administration. It’s also worth remembering that President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation had been recipients of Russian and Russian-related largesse — ostensibly because Hillary Clinton had used her influence as secretary of state under Obama to ease resistance to Russian acquisitions of North American uranium holdings.

CNN is advertising its on-air personalities as “Champions for Change.” What change are they championing? Change for the sake of change? Could change be for the worse? One suspects this is a thinly veiled Trump Resistance dog whistle.

The Capital Times is trying to clamber aboard the school safety issue without retracting its opposition to cops in schools. Is why it throws up another opinion piece on school safety without mentioning (ahem) police. They’re all-in for holding classes teaching kids that rape is not O.K. As if MMSD kids are going to say “Now you tell us!”

The CT backed themselves into this corner by coming out against school resource officers early on. Here’s the thing about cops. You see a squad car up ahead, do you check your speedometer? Make certain to signal your turn? Yes, you do! You see a uniformed police officer in the hallway — are you less likely to commit a crime?

Four Pinocchios is what The Washington Post fact-checker gives  to the Planned Parenthood assertion that, before Roe v. Wade, “thousands” of American women died every year from illegal abortions.

Action alert! Madison Teachers Inc. — wake up! Flood the next school board meeting on June 24 to DEMAND Cops in School. Demand the school board remove T.J. Mertz’s poison pill allowing the district to unilaterally unassign a police officer.
