Pre-teenaged chaos at the Library: ‘We don’t have to listen to police’

Girl kicks policeman in the groin

15 to 20 kids ages 11 and 12

Bookshelf topped, garbage strewn

From the Madison Police Department report:

Madison police were called to the Madison Public Library’s Lakeview Branch, 28455 North Sherman Ave., at 4:58 p.m. Monday after a group of loud juveniles refused a librarian’s request to leave the building.

The librarian later told police some in the group have caused issues several times, over the past week, inside the normally quiet branch. When officers arrived the juveniles, who numbered between 15 and 20, announced they did not have to leave, that they did not have to listen to police, and that police could not touch them.

Despite protestations, officers spent 10 minutes trying to dialogue with the young people, until trying to escort some out. During the process, one girl kicked over a trash can sending refuse materials across the library floor.

She then kicked a male officer in the groin who had grabbed her arm. Another juvenile kicked a chair which hit and toppled a bookshelf.

Throughout the disturbance, young people were yelling and swearing at the officers while several recorded everything on their cell phones. One young person displayed gang signs. Another took off his jacket and postured as if he wanted to fight one of the officers. This child also knocked over a trash can, kicked over a chair, and rifled a half-filled bottle of juice across the library.

“The crowed outnumbered the police. They were loud and frenzied,” wrote a detective in his report. An officer wrote, in another report, that they were met “with angry belligerence and outright refusal to comply with a lawful command.”

The North District Community Police Team was brought in to back up the original four officers who had been dispatched. In the end, five juveniles were given municipal citations for infractions like disorderly conduct, trespass after notification, and resisting. Officers explained what took place to the children’s parents as those cited were released to adults.

Commentary on social media

A Cherokee resident — This is what has been happening in our middle and high schools. There is a lack of respect for teachers and staff. Behavior incidents have doubled. When the kids get out of school, groups of them congregate in different locales creating disturbances, sometimes going place to place, creating more disturbances. Have seen this happen multiple times at McDonalds.

A Kennedy Heights resident — These incidents seem to be happening often at the library. My wife has witnessed them in the past and we don’t visit as often as we used to. There was another escalated incident last Thursday with a large group of kids about the same age. It’s sad but we won’t leave our kids alone at this library anymore. An 11 year old should be safe at the library but unfortunately, it’s not a safe place when this is happening. The group seems to be the same and if they are part of a program through the northside council it would make sense. They are loud and it’s clear they don’t respect rules or authority.

Westport resident — I saw and heard it too. Not sure what happened but I saw the police being incredibly kind and patient.

Sherman neighborhood resident — I’m sad to hear it was a NSPC program. You can’t expect the rest of the community to not feel safe at the library due to a program you are not able to control. Stop looking at the color of the kids skin…look at their behavior. We do a disservice to our youth when we have lower expectations of kids of color…they are not inferior. All kids are the same and should be treated the same and be held accountable for their actions.

Northside Planning Council plays the victim card

The Northside Planning Council became aware tonight (03-11-19) of an escalated incident involving middle school youth in one of our programs and the Madison Police Department. We know that one of the friends of our students was tackled by the officers, leaving her and her peers traumatized. We are reaching out to the students and their families to offer support and resources and to listen to them about what kind of response they would like to see. We recognize that regardless of the specifics of this incident, it falls within the broader context of the policing of communities of color, which is counter to our mission of fostering equity and improving the quality of life on the Northside.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: They shall hereby be known as the Northside Enablers Council.

National Geographic, April 2018, “There’s No Scientific Basis for Race”
As long as we play along with the fallacious notion of Race, we will never solve anything.
Racism, the Leftists create new isms on an almost daily basis.
We have to stop allowing these intellectual wimps to frame the argument.
We have to focus on family involvement, in not just in the home, but involvement in education, and all aspects of there family’s life.
Fathers in the home is the place to start.
Then real discipline, from the beginning, not after it is to late.
When you, or anyone says there is only one race, the human race, don’t back down because they call you a racist. Make them tell you what they can tell you about the genetic difference between any one human from another.
Tell them about Nat’l Geo. April 2018, “Race – It’s a Made Up Label”

Someday, I would like to think our children will laugh at us for using race as a descriptor, the SAME way we laugh at our ancestors for thinking the world was flat.

The concept that we are somehow different based on our skin color…..is as arbitrary as judging people by the length of their ear hair.

Start describing and thinking about people in terms of their attitudes, actions and choices: “hey, look at that guy in the orange shirt”, instead of “hey, look at that bald white dude”.

Wow… you guys don’t keep up with science here? Even pop science like 23&Me shows race can be determined from a cheek swab. The latest genetics research shows “race” (they say population to avoid the r-word) to be real and meaningful, and MUCH deeper than skin color. The human brain isn’t immune to evolution, many human rac-, er, populations, have demonstrably changed in less than 10k years, and until the modern era some populations hadn’t mixed in over 50k years. Check out the latest book from Harvard geneticist David Reich for starters if you are still MLK colorblind. He spends the last third apologizing for finding what he found; useful for coddling the feelings of boomers and liberals.

You need to keep up with the science, I have done 23 and me, there is only one race. The human race. Race is not a genetic construct. It is man made, I am not going to take the time to explain it to you. It is well stated in earlier post. Read April 2018 National Geographic with the cover photo of twin girls one dark skinned and one light skinned.
Read geneticist Dr John Sanford received his PhD at UW, responsible for the Gene Gun. Or Dr Robert Carter, if you want to be up to date on genetic’s, and the fact of only one race, the human race.

replying to Lars here: I did look those two guys up, and I hope everyone else reading this does too. Wow… “keeping up” for you is a social engineering article in a pop magazine and two young earth creationists who got their genetics education in the 1970’s! Their writings on race are plainly religious in nature. I’m not saying Alexander G Bell wasn’t a smart guy, but he’s not who I’d look to for info on modern telecommunications. Cell phones are real despite AG Bell’s ignorance of them. Race is real despite yours. Feel free to call it population, or whatever euphemism for the subdivisions of our SPECIES you prefer. You don’t have to buy into society’s lies that say difference = prejudice, or human worth = IQ. Men and women are different, but of equal moral worth (IMHO). Likewise adults and children, rich and poor, tall and short… The same for different “populations”. Please do read David Reich, as I read your recommended works.

kayhong wai says: Do read David Reich, as I read your recommended works.
First I want thank you for recommending Dr. Reich, his work is fascinating.
Your use of logical fallacies is also quite informative.
Your use of the Genetic fallacy, is quite apropos.
Your appeal to novelty, or age, I am not quite certain.
Why you would find Dr. Reich’s youthful inexperience a plus? It is hard to comprehend.
If you actually looked at Dr. Sanford’s work, and experience, and all his accomplishments, in his more than 30 years as genetics Prof. at Cornell, and another 15 plus years as Ass. prof at Cornell. His at least 3 inventions that helped feed the world. His more than 100 scientific publications, his 2 Biotech enterprises, derived from his research.
His books. If you really want to know, understand, you need to read “Genetic Entropy”
The last more than 15 years, have been devoted to theoretical genetics, and bioinformatics.
The genetic entropy or, huge mutation rate uncorrected by the DNAs repair system, and it’s accumulating effect, says quite a lot about Dr. Reich’s assumptions.
Your subtle Ad Hominem attack, on Dr. Sanford, and Dr. Carter, because they both went from believing in Darwinian evolution, when in their post doc. work, couldn’t find the evidence they were taught was there. They simply followed the evidence and threw off the blinders.
In Dr. Carter’s work with Dr. Sanford etc. he’s has sequenced his own genome, and though he is lily white, has genetic lines to Cameroon, about as dark any people on earth.
The Fact that Mitochondrial Eve, is shown to go back 200,000 years, and all people are derived from her, and now they can trace all maternal, or Mitochondrial lines, to 3 women, approximately 5000 years ago.
Is more than good evidence we all are one race, the human race.
I didn’t see any work by Dr. Reich, using the Mitochondrial genes, granted I have much more research to do on Dr. Reich’s work.
And yes, do as kayhong wai says, I hope that people will read Dr. Sanford’s books, and research, NOT what someone say’s about Sanford’s or Dr. Carter’s work. But read their own work.
Perhaps Dr. Reich will one day come close to equaling Dr. Sanford’s accomplishment’s.
He has plenty of time, but since Dr. Sanford has been working in the field of genetics, and continues to do so, since Dr. Reich’s was in diapers, he
has a long way to go.
I am well aware of Nat. Geo’s shortcomings, which are legion.
Perhaps the problem is there is not a good definition of race, but using common mutations, DNA errors, disease, etc. common to different genetic bottlenecks or isolations is not a good measure.
Here is a short snippet, of Dr. Reich’s writing.
‘Groundbreaking advances in DNA sequencing technology have been made over the last two decades. These advances enable us to measure with exquisite accuracy what fraction of an individual’s genetic ancestry traces back to, say, West Africa 500 years ago — before the mixing in the Americas of the West African and European gene pools that were almost completely isolated for the last 70,000 years. With the help of these tools, we are learning that while race may be a social construct, differences in genetic ancestry that happen to correlate to many of today’s racial constructs are real.
Recent genetic studies have demonstrated differences across populations not just in the genetic determinants of simple traits such as skin color, but also in more complex traits like bodily dimensions and susceptibility to diseases. For example, we now know that genetic factors help explain why northern Europeans are taller on average than southern Europeans, why multiple sclerosis is more common in European-Americans than in African-Americans, and why the reverse is true for end-stage kidney disease.’
The 4 dimensional genetic information, 5, if you include time, some say it could turn out to be 12 dimensions. Trillions of cells, multiplied trillions of neural connections, we have barley scratched the surface, of this staggering complexity
Genes that regulate other genes, that still regulate other genes. Palindromic genetic sequences that, do completely different things, depending on direction of read etc.
Trillions of cells, multiplied trillions of neural connections, nanomachines, etc. truly amazing, staggering complexity. We are one human race, with a myriad of differences but still one.
Please Read Dr. Sanford’s book “Genetic Entropy”
On a slightly lighter note, in accord with the buying of university admission, etc.
Read “Springtime For Snowflakes” by just retired Prof at NYU, Michael Rectenwald.
Also try to listen to him interviewed on grade inflation, etc. where he says, a D, is now an A-, B+ at worst.

Why has the non-acceptance of unacceptable behavior become RACISM. It’s become an excuse to behave any way you want to without consequences. What makes bad behavior ok just because you are of a certain color??? The tail is wagging the dog and in Madison, it’s working!!!

IMO- blaming any of this on race – is racest. Bad behavior done by anyone needs to be addressed. Break the law- it needs to be addressed. To think as they did “‘We don’t have to listen to police” this is an issue. A parenting issue. Not a color issue. It is also an entitlement issue. Which again comes down to parenting. Glad I don’t have young kids in this day and age.

I think facing the truth, in all communities, will set us free from policies based on pretense or fanciful “research”.
All communities need to examine themselves and figure out how to raise hard working, respectful children.
Greed is one of the serious problems in the white, black, and brown affluent community. Parents who encourage greed by, for example, buying their child’s way into a “prestigious” college are showing their children that money, not hard work is the way to go.
Parents of affluence who tell their children that allowance is dependent on the best grades the child is capable of getting, and that the desire for a car can only be fulfilled by the teen earning the money to pay for the car are teaching their children self reliance and the rewards of hard work. One could only hope that one day the media will celebrate these disciplined parents instead of “the rich and famous.”
In non affluent communities there are many parents who are raising hard working, respectful children. It is doubtful that these successful parents are telling their children to use “victimhood” as an excuse for disrespectful, and, even, violent behavior. One could only hope that someday soon their voices will be the loud ones, and that the media will highlight their values and their parenting skills. These are the rightful mentors.
