The white lab coats at Blaska Policy Werkes thank the social justice warriors at Progressive Dane for making our job ever so much easier.
Progressive Dane announced that it is endorsing 12 candidates in the Spring election — a handy checklist for who(m) to vote against.
Progressive Dane is a charter member of the Derail the Jail coalition that shut down the Dane County Board of Supervisors in November 2017 to prevent a vote on a more humane jail. (Along with Freedom Inc. (which wants cops out of the high schools), Madison Socialist Alternative, Our Wisconsin Revolution-Dane County, Young Gifted and Black.) PD is to the Left of even the Dane County Democratic party, a fact that explodes not a few minds out-state.
PD is, after all, the party of Brenda Konkel, the mad scientist who devised the disastrous “affordable housing” ordinance. Madame Brenda also championed the squalid squatters on the steps of the City-County Building a few years back.
Madame Brenda also advertised for someone to swear out a complaint against Police Chief Mike Koval before the Police & Fire Commission. (As we know, she found a taker. The PFC dismissed the case and Koval sent his lawyer’s bill to the City.) The lady is so anti-cop that the Madison police union put up a billboard in her downtown district urging her defeat for re-election to the Common Council. Voters happily obliged.
The PD anointed these true believers (* incumbents):
Mayor of Madison – Satya Rhodes-Conway (running against incumbent Soglin and a cast of thousands.
Madison School Board Seat 4 – Ali Muldrow (running against your man Blaska et al)
Madison School Board Seat 5 – Ananda Mirilli (running against T.J. Mertz et al. Which is rich, given that PD endorsed Mertz last time around.)
Madison Alder District 2 – Patrick Heck (running against Jim White in a seat vacated by Ledell Zellers)
District 4 – Mike Verveer * (unopposed)
District 6 – Marsha Rummel * (unopposed)
District 7 – Badri Lankella (running against Donna Hurd Moreland in seat vacated by Steve King)
District 8 – Matthew Mitnick (running against Avra Reddy in the Zach Wood seat)
District 12 – Diane Farsetta (against Syed Abbas, Lydia S. Maurer, James Stansfield, and Mark-Anthony Whitaker in the Larry Palm district)
District 13 – Tag Evers (against David Hoffert, Justin Kirchen, and Lee Lazar in the Allen Arntsen/Sarah Eskrich seat)
District 15 – Grant Foster (against Angela Jenkins and Justin Williams in the Dave Ahrens seat)
District 17 – Samba Baldeh * (against James Creighton Mitchell, Jr.)
District 18 – Rebecca Kemble * (unopposed)
District 19 – Keith Furman (against Allison E. Martinson in the Mark Clear seat)
District 20 – Christian Albouras (against Erica L. Janisch in the Matt Phair seat. Albouras serves on — and is former co-chair of — the ad hoc committee that has been investigating Madison Police the last four years).
I swear lock-step allegiance
PD is also infamous for insisting its adherents swallow the goat whole or not at all. No cafeteria Catholics allowed in PD. What’s more, PD endorsed candidates must name a liaison from their campaign to PD. They must also advertise their endorsement. No running from the mark of Cain.
No wonder Kaleem Caire refused to be considered (as did Blaska) because Progressive Dane’s city platform is a hot mess. Things like taxpayer-funded election campaigns and voting rights for illegal aliens and felons.
PD’s schools platform is an even hotter mess:
- “Stop contracting with Madison Police Department for educational resource officer presence in schools.
- “Question dress codes …
- “End the practice of expelling students.
- “Oppose zero-tolerance policies, including, but not limited to those for the use of cell phones and other personal devices.
- “Fund legal services/right to counsel for students facing formal discipline …”
Hey kids! Lawyer up! It’s worth noting that Progressive Dane has a disproportionate vice grip on the seven-member Madison Board of Education. In addition to Mertz they claim Dean Loumos, Nikki Vander Meulen, and (until last April) Anna Moffit, who served on the Loumos committee that tried its darnedest to kick cops out of our troubled high schools.
Progressive Dane credits Ali Muldrow with writing the PD platform.

Yes, I have a healthy respect for authority, and I question anyone who doesn’t. Without people in authority, we would cease to be a civilized culture. If you can’t respect the people in authority, at least respect their positions. Question authority? Yes. But that doesn’t give anyone license to treat said authority with blatant disrespect.

If things don’t improve in the MMSD in the next 2-5 years I’ll definitely be relocating to another school district.
Can someone remind me when the next election is? And am I eligible to vote (against PD) in ALL of the races? Or do I actually have to reside in a specific district?

Am I correct that there are two races for alder that involve multiple candidates (i.e. not a person running unopposed) where Progressive Dane did not make an endorsement? Am I correct about that, and do you know why?

District 10 (Near West and Southwest): Zachary Henak and Kristin Johnson
And do you have opinions (I’m sure you do!) about the races with more than one non-PD endorsed candidate? Basically I want to figure out what candidates are LEAST PD-like.

The worst emotion you could ascribe to me is schadenfreude and boy am I guilty.
You believe America to be the problem rather than the solution. You ascribe to the Howard Zinn, Noam Chomsky, Barack Obama, Saul Alinsky school of history. Never mind that Chomsky et al. loved them some Chavez/Maduro School of Governance until it played out as it always does.
