The Lord High Commissioner of Blaska Policy Werkes advised a candidate running against incumbent Alder Mo Cheeks two years ago. We started by bellowing into our candidate’s face: “YOU X#!*X#X RACIST!”
“W-W-WHAT?” the discombobulated candidate yelped.
Get used to it, we counseled. Never mind that you have lived in your neighborhood 30 years. Does not matter that you are vice president of your neighborhood association, etc. You are a white man running against a black man in The Emerald City. That makes you a racist. Sure enough, he was soon played the race card, face up.
As was school board candidate Cris Carusi in today’s Wisconsin State Journal (12-30-18).
Race-shaming is big business in Madison WI. Scam artists have set up shop their race swindles in town, selling white guilt to the easily fooled: Groundwork and Families for Justice.
Selling hate to the gullible
It’s how the Left explains the failure of More Free Stuff liberalism. It is true that students of color are disproportionately failing their classwork and are suspended from school. The black arrest rate is, indeed, 10 times higher than the white. The only answer, according to the race hustlers: they are victims! Their teachers, the school district, the police, the entire legal system are Racist To The Core.
Which is why terribly “woke” school board members Dean Loumos, T.J. Mertz, and Anna Moffit (all Progressive Dane) wanted to kick the cops out of our troubled high schools. They actually believe, as the social justice warriors claim, that police are trained to kill students of color even though the school resource officers themselves are minority races. (More here.)

So, when you see a black person doing something you perceive as suspicious, … you can think twice before acting on it. … Thornton said five or 10 years ago, if he’d seen a couple of black teens peeking in the windows of his parked car, he would have called the police. “Now, I think I’d turn on an outside light,” he said.
Chew on that a while. If Thornton is able to turn on a light, the car is in his driveway. But don’t call the cops — unless the perps are white, of course! Does he ever think that calling the cops might save those kids’ lives or of their innocent victims? That the cops might help steer their lives in a more sustainable direction?
Blaska’s Bottom Line: Groundwork or Families for Justice are nothing more than excuse mills, generating even more failure by blaming Somebody Else.

Yup. I had the same thought about Thornton. How stupid can he get? I recently carried on a “discussion” with a young tranny prog who lives on the near SW side about the Tree Lane apartments. This was in response to a Cap Times column that claimed that the people who criticize the complex and the thuggery that goes on there as being insensitive and lacking empathy to the people who live there. I pointed out that the biggest fallacy was to claim a lack of sensitivity, since the whole apt complex was put up out of empathy for the plight of homeless people. But, many of those who moved in, are totally ungrateful and use it as their criminal playground, thereby, ignoring the best efforts of the community to find them a place to live. Well, the tranny never responded to my point and immediately began calling me names and posting pics intended to mock me. S”he” never ONCE raised a relevant point of discussion. I accused “her” of being racist and s”he” exploded. I explained that “her” racism was a condescending racism of low expectations. The thugs need to be understood, coddled and tolerated. It is the woman who lives across the street from the complex, who wrote that she no longer took her evening walks, who is the racist. When you don’t expect much of people, that shows what you think of them. Madison progs are probably the most racist people in our community. And it takes a certain kind of Orwellian thinking to reject that simple idea.

“Yes,” the claim of “nation” is liberal hogwash, and “Yes,” you’re correct that the Federal Government uses that term. However, I think we can all agree, the Fed’s have no claim to omniscience or justice. To support that contention, one only need point to antebellum slavery or the 20 million ‘illegal’s’ in the nation. Just because the Feds and the states sanction racial discrimination, the legal imprimatur has no more value that the legalistic screams of George Wallace as he pointed to the ‘colored’ drinking fountains.
The issue is this: Does the government use RACISM for governing principles; for the redistribution of wealth; for racially discriminatory purposes, in direct conflict with the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment?
If “indian tribes” can self-identify as nations; if men can identify as women or whatever’s, then clearly, blacks can self-identify as “nations” for casino rights, among many other privileges that they, like whites, are now denied by our racist laws.

Slavery WAS the law of the land, it took acts of Congress (and war) to curtail and end it. The rights Native Americans now have were agreed to by treaty with the US govt., not with the states, Wallace notwithstanding. Is/was the govt. racist? Sure, just not to the natives’ benefit (unless you consider the Trail of Tears and genocide beneficial). The tribes recently figured out how to make money from gambling, based on their treaty rights and tribal legal status, not their race. Old white guys never seemed too concerned when the reservations were pits of poverty; now that the tribes are making money that no one else can, the old white guys (AKA Trump’s base) are fearful and threatened, just like they are by women, ”whatevers,” affirmative action beneficiaries, blacks, browns, etc.

Tribal rights are derived by race and blood quantum. You admit the formal policy of the US Gov is to affirm racism. Lots of “indians” don’t qualify for tribal goodies because they are not racially pure enough. Now explain how/why all treaties should not be absolved, just as was the post WWI Versailles Treaty.
Ethically – politically, do you, Bob, believe in the equal treatment clause….or is that just a meme of the civil rights movement? Eh, why not 20 votes for employers or those who pay taxes over 20K per year? Where does the logical defense of INEQUALITY take you on so many fronts?
Finally, who is better-off today? Descendants of N.American tribes or the “native” peoples of Brazil who remain untouched by poison of industrial progress and the Enlightenment? Tribes, who formerly warred with each other for ‘lands’ and who knows what else, should be THANKFUL to Europeans who brought science, industrialism, and other benefits of The West. All tribes have the “freedom” today to reject The West and return life of 1000 years ago. How many do you know who would tear Western plumbing out of their homes? who would crush their eyeglasses on the base of the statue of C. Columbus? who embrace traditional heating by sticks, sans chainsaw-cut wood? who would cut holes in the ice into which they could drive their wicked snowmobiles? who would voluntarily return to arrows and spears, sans metal?

The Versailles Treaty was not absolved, it was ignored by Hitler and unenforced by the allies. What that has to do with treaties between the US and the tribes escapes me. Are you saying they should be abrogated because the tribes are racist when determining the blood of their own membership? That’s kind of lefty of you. I don’t see that as any more inequitable than the Swiss refusing to issue me one of their passports.
Who is better off than they were in the past? You and I, most likely the descendants of working poor or sharecroppers, are. After the native populations were decimated by disease & superior weaponry, forcibly relocated to unlivable lands, their culture and language banned, many of them will argue they AREN’T better off than they were prior to Columbus.

Bob, your claim about Versailles —- wrong. Reparations were never enforced in perpetuity. Check the Dawes and Young plans where massive financial changes to benefit Germany were made.
Moreover, after WWiI, there was no attempt to preserve the sanctity of WWI Versailles Treaty.

I am merely observing that laws of the US today incorporate and apply OBJECTIVELY racial (racist) criterion for a host of civil and governmental rights. IMO, treaties should be abolished; no special services to Indians/Tribes that anyone else in the US also cannot avail themselves. That is one of lessons of Nazi Germany. Not following you on Versailles. The treaty WAS ignored: reparations were never paid (at least in full), and certainly not in perpetuity, and the allies didn’t enforce it because there was no appetite for further conflict. And yes, post-WWII superseded post-WWI: no sanctity of Versailles there.

I’m not an anthropologist and never claimed to be an expert on NA, nor did I attend UWEC, nor do I romanticize the Nobel Savage. I’ll concede you’re better read on the subject, although nothing you’ve presented so far (from what I can tell from reviews of the books you cite) explains why you refuse to accept the tribes as nations. Whether by dictionary definition or by recognition from our federal and state governments, they’re considered nations. Yes, I was aware the Seattle speech is Hollywood hokum and yes (I’ve now learned), there is controversy about where the Iroquois Confederacy fits in our nation’s institutional narrative.
Perhaps you can employ some of that Noblesse Oblige to teach me more about your command of arrogance. 😉

Commendation. Your post is spot-on, though I doubt many here have even read a sentence of Perry Miller. Additionally, the intolerance of the Left also surfaced before and during WWI., Local mobs demanded proof of patriotic conformity: Buy War Bonds or else you might be tarred and feathered or run out of town. Others were shot or hanged. Those who doubt this can read Fite’s, Opponents of War, or Preston’s, Alien and Dissenters.
Creel Committees’ were not needed to motivate the mob. Similarly, we see the same imperative for ideological purity in the actions of Chinese Red Guard Movement. And of course, everyone remembers the millions of murders by the Khmer Rouge in Kampuchea.

Your view of history is confusing me, Paine (along with Kriewald’s stretch of an analogy about Puritans and the left, instead of – more accurately – Puritans and the intolerant evangelical right). Not many consider “proof of patriotic conformity” a characteristic of the left. Prior to WWI, socialists, I.W.W.’s and conscientious objectors, along with the majority of Americans, opposed entering the war. Wilson’s Creel Committee ginned up the patriotism of that majority after entering the war, to the detriment of the left, the Wobblies and the C.O.’s. Now, I haven’t read the books you cite, but the summaries and reviews of them don’t seem to square with your take on them. Those weren’t mobs of the left tarring and feathering the right.

I do not concede that intolerance and fanatical attitudes and actions are distributed equally. There is NO liberal or left force in colleges today who defend FREEDOM of SPEECH.
Who has a dramatic record of denying free speech and diversity of ideas in higher education? Ans: Only the left. Examples of Coulter, Shapiro, Milo, Peterson, Charles Murray, etc. How many Marxists, Socialists, etc. have been denied freedom of speech on campus in the last decade? None that I know.

If we’re speaking strictly about college campuses, then I agree that the left is responsible for 99% (and I’m being generous) of the prevailing fanaticism and intolerance. Colleges have become little more than boot camps for social justice warriors and day care centers for (putative) adults.

Interesting point, Paine, so I did some googling. Georgetown U’s Free Speech Project found about 60 incidents of restricting speech on campus during 2016 & 2017. The speakers you list accounted for the majority of incidents. Could it be because they were deliberately provocative (e.g. Milo’s “Dangerous Faggot Tour”), which is why conservative student groups invited them and then loudly publicized the resulting mess? But you’re dead wrong that it affects only conservatives. There is a good proportion of leftie faculty being forced to apologize or being fired for political speech. Any restrictions of speech are bad, but 60 incidents, mostly from the same handful of people, in a country with 4500+ campuses, is a manufactured crisis overblown by conservative media and its supporters, like Blaska toward the UW. The left has no equivalent propaganda noise machine like the right has, to publicize speech restrictions that hurt lefties, so I’m not surprised you’re unaware of any.

There are NO examples where “Trump Nation” has denied freedom of speech to opponents. Second, I call your attention to the diversity within the Rep Party. One doesn’t have to be a member to note Romney-Flake-Corker-McCain ain’t friends or allies of Trump. That is diversity, not the fascist psychology of conformity. WHAT examples do you have where Trumpsters have used violence to suppress speakers on campus?
You attempt to rationalize suppression of conservatives/libertarians by branding them as “deliberately provocative.” –As my friend at Yale has written, To say you support free speech except for certain opinions is like saying you support same sex marriage, except for lesbians. Once you forget the meaning of freedom and start cherry picking which people or what types of speech might deserve it, free speech ceases to be a right.
Instead it becomes a privilege, to be extended to those the authorities see fit.
This is the message of those fashionable sermons about how “rights come with responsibilities”.
That is just another way of saying that it is not a right at all, but a selective reward for “good” behavior. Rights don’t come with provisos.

You must’ve missed press coverage of Trump rally protestors beaten by his supporters (at HIS encouragement) – you need news sources besides FOX, the Trump Network – but you really lost me when you got to “diversity” within the party of notoriously white, male and old GOP electeds. Trump’s boorishness finally managed to offend even those you mentioned, but due to CONFORMITY and demands of party loyalty, they timidly only speak when they’re headed out the door. Everyone else lives in fear of being primaried, even if it costs the GOP a seat. Mitt’s term will outlast Trump and he’s probably going to challenge him as Trump becomes further compromised, or impeached, for his many scandals. Yet 88% of Republicans support this obscenity in the White House? THAT’S mindless conformity, even, as you say, the fascistic psychology of conformity.

I know of one instance in a meeting hall where one Trump protestor was somewhat hassled. Since you dispute that, provide sources. Diversity in the party? OMG — you are slow; Mitt, Corker, McCain, Rubio, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Collins, Murkowski, Fiorina, and Walker. All different.
Provide ONE example where a Democratic US Senator attacked or publicly disagreed with Obama. The remainder of your screed is worthy of a reply.

“Somewhat hassled”? How about sucker punched by a typically low brow Trump nut at a rally when Trump said he’d pay the legal fees of anyone who did it. We all saw it over and over again on TV. The sap who did the punching also learned Trump’s word is no good.
For GOP opponents, you offer the members that ran against him for the nomination or got nervous over repealing healthcare with no alternative. Weak with a capital W. They’ve spent the rest of their time licking his boots.
One example of a Senate Dem opposing Obama? Udall opposed bombing ISIS. Landrieu tangled with him constantly over energy policy. Pryor voted against Obama raising the minimum wage. The list goes on. He didn’t demand fealty like wannabe despot Trump does. This is getting weaker and weaker on your end, Paine. What’s the matter, Pelosi as Speaker getting under your skin? Shots of inauguration today showed a Democratic house that looks vibrant on their side of the aisle; full of women, minorities, enthusiasm, color and energy. The GOP? Old. Gray. Male. Which group looks like America? Which is the future? I know which side I’ll take. Trump telegraphed his flop sweat by showing up in the WH press room for the first time today, in a pathetic attempt to get attention. He’s facing two years of being owned by a smart, strategic, powerful woman; his worst nightmare and my delight. I’m relieved for America that we’ll finally get some sunlight on his corruption and ineptitude.

So the Right is at fault for sponsoring “provocative” speakers on campus? I thought one of the main purposes of higher education is to challenge beliefs by subjecting them to the rigors of rational analysis. Being provocative is one method of prompting students to examine (or at least begin examining) their beliefs, opinions, ideas. In fact, given the cultural milieu in which today’s college students exist, provocation is just about the only way to get their attention. It would be nice if college were a version of Plato’s Symposium,. where wise elders guide their young charges, through the powers of rational argument and analysis, to see the light of truth and virtue, but instead it’s becoming a moral and intellectual wilderness overseen by spineless and craven administrators and staffed by ideologically blinkered professors intent on brainwashing students into conforming to the anointed political/social gospel of the left. Trust me, I’ve seen it from the inside for four decades, and it’s only getting worse.
