The Dodger is a dirty player

UPDATE: Machado fined. He is the Vontaze Burfict of baseball.

To think that the Brewers tried to get this guy! Thank the gods of baseball we didn’t! 

Manny Machado is a dirty player. The L.A. Dodgers can have him. For now. He’s a rent-a-player, anyway. We’ll take Orlando Arcia any day. An arrogant prick. A discredit to the game. Josh Hader needs to buzz his control tower. (Not hit him but whistle one past his ear.) The series will go back to Milwaukee no matter what happens later today (Wednesday, 10-17-18) and Macho-man will be booed long, hard, and often. 

The dirty player easily could have put Jesus Aguilar out for the series and all of next season by purposely, and obviously, trying to injure the first baseman’s achilles tendon. 

The question is why didn’t umpires throw him out of the game? Pro football would have tossed the guy for an egregious late hit. At least Hall of Famer Joe Torre, MLB’s vice principal in charge of discipline, will review the play. A one-game suspension in-series would be appropriate.

Not that Machado appears to care. Thugs never do.

When Machado was asked again about the play, he said, “I was trying to get over him and hit his foot. If that’s dirty, that’s dirty. I don’t know, call it what you want.”

That’s dirty. Credit FS-1 announcers Joe Buck (don’t get the hate Packers fans have for him) and John Smoltz for calling Macho-man out on his felonious play. 

Earlier, Machado mocked the Brewer catcher by wildly gesticulating that he, too, wanted an appeal from the first-base umpire of an almost swinging strike. Almost as egregious, the guy steps out of the batters box on a pitch already on its way then bitches when the umpire justifiably doesn’t grant the time out and calls a strike instead. 

This follows at least one — and possibly two — illegal slides into second base in Game 3 Monday. The umpires rightly called two outs on the second, which was totally unnecessary. 

Disgracefully, the pre-game talking heads for FS-1 were all about excusing Machado for not running out ground balls. Guys like A-Rod, Big Papi, and the Big Hurt should know better. They played the game the right way.

So does Christian Yelich.

“He’s a player that has a history of those types of instances. One time’s an accident, but over and over and over again — you’re just a dirty player,” Yelich said. “A dirty play by a dirty player. It absolutely is. I have a lot of respect for him as a player, but you can’t respect someone who plays the game like that.”

As No. #1 son Max said during the game, “Somewhere in hell, Ty Cobb is cheering this guy.”
