Blaska Policy Werkes

David Blaska, going out of his way to provoke progressives in Madison WI to make America safe for democracy!

Let the sun shine in!

Man that sunshine sure feels good today!

Disasters are something that happens elsewhere until it happens here. The Stately Manor and its denizens were lucky. Our basement drain actually drained once the crud was scraped off! Except for a few low spots that needed to be push broomed (verb, transitive) to the hole in the floor.

Neighbors went to Farm & Fleet and purchased pumps. Lot of basement carpeting and other goods on the curb. The indentured servants have laid out everything salvageable on lawn chairs, hammocks and what not to dry out. We’re starting a petition to dredge the pond on the south side of the Beltline from Odana Hills golf course. That would alleviate some of the flooding. No doubt that is a long-term project. Civil authorities have many more repairs to make before they can attend to that.

The Experimental Work Farm’s lorry truck is loaded with new junk to transport to the Badger Road drop-off site. As our friend Jim Troupis says, a flooded basement is God’s way of telling you to declutter.

On a personal note, we give a lot of credit to Ald. Matt Phair and his wife Connie for their efforts to save three people from drowning just a few blocks west of Stately Blaska Manor, one of whom was lost to the flood. We’ve been very critical of the alder for his politics. But his sense of human decency is beyond reproach. Their harrowing story is told in today’s excellent Wisconsin State Journal coverage.

More heroes: City, county and village fire departments, law enforcement, street and public works personnel.

Blaska’s Bottom Line: Thank you, everyone.

A social media site has been set up for Flooding Across Dane County.

Put this over in the column under “ya learn something new every darn day” – “Along with recreational benefits, the habitat is also restored when dredging happens. When a body of water is dredged, there is a less likely change for shoreline erosion. Many types of sediment can contain pollutants from industrial runoff; this greatly affects the water quality.” Maybe we could dredge summa these stinky lakes while we got the heavy equipment out of the shed. Loved your post today! Also liked your hats off to the emergency service personnel who are exemplary, and to Alderman and his wife, and their decency. Call me #always surprised – not about the ESP’s, but the politician. Wishing you all the dryness you want, and a happy day in the sun!

Yes, I do give my Alder, Matt Phair, and his wife, great credit for attending to the struggling motorists off of Chapel Hill Road during the storm. It appears to have been a heroic and heart-wrenching struggle. The Phairs deserve commendation.

Endured a “once in 500 years” storm that dropped 9 inches of rain in a few hours in our new hometown in the midwest a week after moving here in June. 1800 damaged homes, cars piled atop each other in the floodwaters, piles of basement debris curbside. Also a death by being swept away. Not as bad as Madison and western Dane County, but close. What’s going on? Is this the new normal?

I do what most responsible people do;in addition, to not voting for crooked politicians who gut the DNR, bring in more corporate farms, cut regulations, let raw manure run into our water and waste your precious tax dollars taking 24 miles flights on a state owned plane which is wasting fuel and polluting the air. I also walk the areas when door knocking for Evers. I also give people rides to vote in my hybrid.

Ohh ohh!!! You mean like Ottmar Edenhofer? He seems to know A LOT!!

Herr Edenhofer’s credentials (UNIPCC, UNIPCC working Group III, Lead Author AR4 [2007]) put him on par with a cabinet level position in our government.

In a moment of unbridled candor far too rare in these discussions:

          (bolds/caps mine throughout)
“First of all, developed countries have basically expropriated the atmosphere of the world community.

“But one must say clearly that WE REDISTRIBUTE DE FACTO THE WORLD’S WEALTH BY CLIMATE POLICY.

“Obviously, the owners of coal and oil will not be enthusiastic about this.”

ONE HAS TO FREE ONESELF FROM THE ILLUSION THAT INTERNATIONAL CLIMATE POLICY IS ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY.

“THIS HAS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO WITH ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY ANYMORE, with problems such as deforestation or the ozone hole.”

Illusion? Nothing to do with environmental policy?

Probably taken out of context, am I right?

Hey, thanks for getting me to look him up.

Regarding climate change he says: “Denying out and out that climate change is a problem for humanity, as some cynics do, is an unethical, unacceptable position.”[10]:304

Edenhofer favours cap-and-trade over a direct carbon tax as the most efficient method to reduce greenhouse emissions and encourage innovation to preserve the climate. He feels strongly that moving the global economy to a low-carbon threshold requires huge increases in the use of renewable energy across all economic sectors.

          @AnonyBob;

Soooo, none of his other verbatim quotes (things with which youse struggle mightily) resonate?

“ ‘Denying out and out that climate change is a problem for humanity, as some cynics do, is an unethical, unacceptable position.’ ”

And the crony-capitalistic criminally insane UNIPCC’s approach is an ethical and acceptable one?

Follow the money; it’s not in the research, it’s in the solutions recommended by the SPM addendum to the AR’s.

Incuriously, the “solutions” quite often benefit those who propose them.

Ever wonder why the UNIPCC has fought reform and scrutiny?

          Didn’t think so.

The UNIPCC answers to no one, has no obligation to give an audience to anyone that doesn’t confirm the “Consensus” (CON US, for short) and has NO Conflict-Of-Interest (COI) provision.

An Interacademy Council investigation recommended sweeping changes to the UNIPCC.

*(T)he council said it needs a full-time executive director, more openness and regular changes in leadership.

*It also called for stronger enforcement of its reviews of research and adoption of a COI policy, which the IPCC does not have, even though its parent agencies do.

*The (COI) issue was raised because of then UNIPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri’s work as adviser and board member of green energy companies, etc., etc., etc.

          http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/31/interacademy-council-says_n_700263.html

          The UNIPCC’s response?

          “F**K OFF!!

Just good honest Climate Scientists doing good honest Climate Research, am I right?

ABob, we’ve been told “the science on Man Made Global Warming is settled”. I’ve heard that for 18 yrs+/- yet this science can’t predict air or ocean temperatures, more or fewer hurricanes, nada. Here, have a hockey stick.
These are assumptions built into computer models over 30 years where they have no value as tiny errors become huge.
The best computer minds and models available measuring probability in near real time is what gave President Hillary her lock on the election so she could honor the Paris Accords.
On the upside, last year the USA reduced its CO2 output dramatically due to the use of frackingly abundant, cheap natural gas instead of coal for power generation. No other signatory state did and either way, China and India pumped enough MORE CO2 that the previous year and offset the US’ reduction.
If I still lived in Madison I’d want a shorter winter and a longer growing season so I’d be burning all the soft No, 2 coal I could get my hands on.

Manmade climate change doesn’t give you nicer weather in the winter, my misguided friend, it gives you messed up weather patterns and more extreme events, like say, the 500 year event that’s currently drowning Dane County. We had one a month ago where I live.
