There is a social media meme that holds that everyone you don’t like is Hitler. We’re at that point in hyperbole U.S.A.
Maybe Trump did start it. Mocking Carly Fiorina’s appearance and the disabled reporter soured me on the man, big time.
But he is a disrupter and his trade wars may yet succeed just as his taunting of “Lil’ Kim” as “Rocket Man” led to a rapprochement that should (but won’t) win him the Nobel Peace Prize. In the same way, his escalation of immigration enforcement at the border has — say what you will — caught the attention of Americans left and right. We’re in danger of actually getting something done about immigration at long last.
Give the man this: Trump enjoys baiting the Left. They go for his chum every time. U.S. Rep. Mark Pocan gets his button pushed and responds by introducing a bill to abolish Immigration & Customs Enforcement! What a clown show! I served with Mark on the Dane County Board back in the day. He was not a serious legislator then and he is not now.
Wearing pussy hats only made the Left look immature. So now they’ve hit upon another self-defeating tactic. They’re going to play Soup Nazi. No Soup For You, Sarah Huckabee Sanders! No Soup For You, Mrs. Homeland Security Director!
If the Koch-funded, deep dark Conservative Conspiracy tried to invent a comic foil, it could do no better than Maxine Waters, D-California. A walking parody of American identity politics nonsense. Like many on the Left, the lady from California encourages more Trump supporters to be run out of town.

There’s a moral and psychic cost to participating in the fiction that people who work for Trump are in any sense public servants. I don’t blame staff members at the Virginia restaurant, the Red Hen, for not wanting to help Sanders unwind after a hard week of lying to the public about mass child abuse.

Rachel Maddow goes to the border and works up some salty tears: children separated from their parents! Look at those tents! It’s 100 degrees on the Texas border. Staffed with medical personnel. Nourished with wholesome meals. The separation is temporary. And the act prompting that separation is illegal.

The smug self-righteousness of our liberal-progressive-socialist acquaintances and the hypocritical double standard of too much of the news media serves only to firm up Trump’s support.
Blaska’s Bottom Line: If you really want to test Madison’s inclusivity, wear a Make America Great Again cap to a coffee shop on Monroe Street. Or try to speak before the Madison Board of Education. Bad enough that the social justice warriors will shout you down but when they’ve succeeded, school board member Dean Loumos piles on.

It was interesting to see Charles Krauthammer’s first column for the Washington Post reprinted in the State Journal. His opening sentence was similar to something I’ve been saying for many years now, but he was a bit more blunt about it. I said that conservatives look at liberals and think of them as misguided. (Charles said “stupid.”) We think think their intentions are good, but they don’t see the harm their policies actually do. Meanwhile liberals look at conservatives and think we’re evil. And so it remains to this day.

And what happens when one of these people won’t budge and tells your gaggle of red guards to to go F themselves, Auntie Maxine? You know and we know, the same thing we see every time someone doesn’t tuck their tail and slink away when the leftie mob show up; violence. We saw it during the campaign, we see it on college campuses and in cities across the country. Any conservative individual or group that doesn’t succumb to intimidation by the mob will be assaulted.
Since Hillary lost the election, we’ve seen the mainstream left embrace the rhetoric and violence of the extreme left. When the ANTIFA basement dwelling revolutionary larpers attacked people with pepper spray and batons in Berkeley, you had mendacious assholes like Paul Krugman carrying water for them. While you have leftist activist encouraging people to “punch and Nazi”, you have the leftist media proclaiming all Trump supporters Nazis. Now you have a member of congress enthusiastically encouraging intimidation, with the threat of violence, against members of the administration.
To put it simply, what we are looking at is the normalization of violence against the left’s political opponents and the dehumanization of their opponents to make that violence palatable. So far these idiots have had it their own way. They should contemplate that one day that will stop.

It seems Miss Maxine, decked out as always in her discount wig and QVC jewelry, is urging lefties to take their grievances to the streets by harassing Trump administration employees/supporters. On this point, I’m in total agreement with her. What ails this country can’t be fixed by Congress, the courts, or the ballot box. So yeah, let’s roll! And be sure to follow the advice of Sean Connery’s character in The Untouchables: “When they send one of ours to the hospital, we send one of theirs to the morgue.”
It should be clear to one and all that the Left in general and Dems in particular have finally unleashed their fanaticism for all to behold. When you opt to move the fight from the public to the private arena, you’ve essentially signalled that all bets are off, that any tactic is defensible as long as it advances your fanatical ideology. Most of the time Nazi analogies are ludicrous (like comparing the detention camps on the border to Auschwitz), but public harassment and threats to people simply trying to have a meal with friends and family are disturbingly close to the tactics used in 1930s Germany to terrorize and marginalize Jews. What’s next, breaking the windows of stores that sell merchandise to Trump supporters? Our very own version of Kristallnacht, courtesy of the Brownshirts of the left.
