Tell the 14 Madison alders how much you appreciate their historical cleansing

We present to you the 14 alders who voted May 1, 2018 to uproot the memorial stone commissioned by Madison’s veterans of the Union cause in the Civil War. Men who shed their own blood to fight slavery and preserve the union, men who heeded Abraham Lincoln’s exhortation to “bind up the nation’s wounds.”

These warriors who sounded the Battle Cry of Freedom solicited donations from their former adversaries in the south to erect a memorial to the Madison woman who cared for the potters field containing the remains of 140 Confederate soldiers who died in captivity at Camp Randall in 1862. That woman, Alice Whiting Waterman, lived in the home of Union Captain Frank Oakley and died there in 1897. Oakley had been an adjutant for General Lucius Fairchild, who lost an arm at Gettysburg and who, as governor from 1866-72, helped Mrs. Waterman preserve Confederate Rest cemetery.

The veterans of the Civil War, as the Lucius Fairchild Post #11 of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), celebrated the dedication of the memorial stone in 1906. Now, 112 years later, with nary a complaint in all that time, Madison alders who have never “borne the battle” for freedom in any conflict have decreed that the memorial stone is a stealth monolith in defense of slavery, a talisman stoking racism. For they are Madison alders, and their virtue is of greater purity than the noblest being, even those who freed the slaves and secured the protection of their rights as citizens under the U.S. Constitution.

McKinney 6Tell these good folks you want to know the date and time the forklift loads the monument onto the flatbed truck. Ask if a celebration will be scheduled for the occasion. Speeches, brass band, patriotic songs, punch and cookies afterward to mirror the one held at Confederate Rest cemetery in 1906.

E-mail all the alders.

Ask the mayor, too.

Ask them to apologize to these folks:

David — I agree with your assessment here — that the City Council majority engages in “cheap moral preening.” A better alternative would have been to leave the stone, and add a bronze plaque in the immediate vicinity to explain that the Civil War dealt with (and attempted to resolve) a dark period in American history, in which human beings were regarded as property. The stone, the plaque would have said, memorializes a genuine attempt at forgiveness and healing. Or words to that effect.

Sadly, the Council’s preoccupation with these small-minded stunts distracts from the fact that the city continues to have too much violence, too much car theft, too much crime in general. That truth will remain after the memorial is gone. The victorious alders do not wish that such truth will be recognized.

Those 14 people, social justice warriors and enablers of delusions, don’t give a flying fart-in-the-wind what anyone outside their sphere of ideological “wokeness” thinks or says, they are the intellectuals, the keepers of the right kind of knowledge, while everyone are the ignorant deplorables that need to be controlled.

And like all good leftists, their vision of history is completely driven by ideology. There’s no difference between their removal of the Confederate memorial and Stalin’s erasing of images of Trotsky from photos–especially those featuring Lenin addressing an adoring throng–and replacing them with images of himself (even though at the time he was a hundred miles away eating a bowl of borscht). Asking Madison alders to stop their moral preening is like asking a peacock to stop spreading its tail.

And since there’s no use arguing with the likes of those city “leaders” listed above, I suggest introducing a proposal to the Common Council to remove the memorial to veterans of the Spanish Civil War in James Madison Park. Those who fought against Franco were aided and abetted by the abovementioned dictator, one of history’s most infamous mass murderers. What’s good for the Confederate goose should be good for the Commie ganders, especially the ones squawking their moral outrage in Madison’s City Hall.

      1. What’s a little more accurate is that these Alders are acting just like ISIS did when they destroyed historical landmarks trying to destroy a history they didn’t approve of and replace it with their own or how about they are like the Nazi’s cleansing their society by burning books they disagreed with. Anyway you look at these people they appear to be ideological terrorists that are morally bankrupt literally trying to rewrite history to reflect their own world views and perceptions instead of the actual facts.

I sent a plea to the humanity of the Alders, pointing out that is is very cruel and hurtful to relatives of Civil War veterans to have their graves and monuments desecrated. I seriously wonder how many of these cold hearts even had ancestors living in the US during the war.

They don’t give a hoot what the families of these “racists” soldiers, or the racists that took care of their graves, or the racists that put up the monument think, heck they’re probably racists too. As far as they are concerned you’re probably a racists too for supporting the existence of the momument.

These Alders have spoken “and as such is beyond contestation”.

Get off it Dave. How about being outraged over Afganistan. The civil war was 4 years long. We have kids going to high school who were born when that undeclared war was started. We have men and women who have been fighting in the Middle East longer than the entire Civil War. Guiliani said that guys like Kushner are disposable. Not true. To the elite like Rudy we are all disposable.

Scary thought for the day. I believe Alder Matt Phair is a history teacher. Oh to be a fly on the wall in that classroom.

    1. Alder Matt Phair is a direct result of how our school systems and colleges have prepared students for life and now Alder Matt Phair is a direct source of ignorance that’s preparing students for life and a direct part of the overall political apparatus that is controlling the country. It’s frightening for the future of students and our society if Alder Matt Phair is what our education system is producing as a typical teacher.

Years ago I asked a Prog history teacher why they taught it so badly, “Because we can’t agree on what history is” she said.
“OK, then why can’t you teach geography?” I asked.
        No answer.
