Not to diminish the role Governor Scott Walker and his cabinet played in landing Foxconn — in Speaker Paul Ryan’s congressional district, no less. That’s hard work on the ground and in the trenches. Goodbye, Paul Nehlen. Your 16% in November 2016 was your high-water mark.
And goodbye Andy Gronik, Kathleen Vinehout, and whoever might be thinking about challenging Scott Walker for re-election next year. “A game changer,” is what Speaker Ryan called landing Foxconn for Wisconsin at Wednesday’s White House ceremony. And not just economically.

Ground could be broken somewhere in Racine or Kenosha Counties during the 2018 campaign season for Foxconn’s $10 billion, 20 million square-foot complex. That is three times the size of the Pentagon. It will open up with 3,000 high-tech manufacturing jobs, perhaps as many as 13,000 eventually. Family supporting jobs? How about $53,900 a year on average? Plus benefits.
“Today we’re announcing the single largest economic development project in the history of Wisconsin and one of the largest in the history of this country,” Walker said. The Taiwan-based company (it owns the Sharp brand) makes flat-panel liquid crystal display (LCD) screens for televisions and automotive info displays. (More here.)

There’s a reason Wisconsin Democrats have $36,500 in the till and Republicans have $1.7 million. Redistribution, high taxes, identity politics, and no jobs adds up to a tough sell for our liberal-progressive-socialist acquaintances.
- Certainly, Democratic party hitman One Scot Ross will do his best to rain on the parade. He already has. (It’s all a big “con job.”)
- Somehow, Scott Walker is “running scared.” (An actual Capital Times headline and editorial from just a week ago.)
- If only Gov. Walker hadn’t turned down “high-speed” rail, lamented a liberal editor! (“Rail decision may come back to bite Walker & Co.”) Then again, it may not.
- Rep. Gwen Moore, D-Milwaukee, did not want to be “used as a backdrop in this photo op” at the White House, thereby spurning her one possible contribution.
We know it’s supposed to be opinion but shouldn’t it be based on something real? Talk about FAKE NEWS!
One other point: what you think the chances are Foxconn would have located in, say, Illinois or Connecticut or any other liberal-run state that didn’t carry for Donald Trump? BTW: stock markets set another record Wednesday.

“Epic didn’t get that kind of money” but they did get money on the tax payer dimes. So was that picking a winner or loser? Look at it now, Verona is one of the fasted growing area in the state, in fact it has grown so fast it had to pass the largest school referendum just to be able to take on the influx of children into the district. Because the TIF was expiring and Epic was finally going to pay property taxes Verona was able to pass the referendum with ease because of the offsetting infusion into School District This happened from the investment from one company and without it Verona would not have been able to grow it’s tax base fast enough to pay much of anything. I know I a recent Verona resident, even though I refuse to send my child to a public school I still supported referendum and tax increase.
So a larger evil chinese company decides Wisconsin is finally going to be home base moving forward. It is going to take a much larger deal to reap the rewards. This deal will not just attract this one company it will attract businesses. The economic impact will be bigger than GM ever was to Wisconsin.
FoxxConn deal if it gets off the ground and rolling is “BFD” as Joe Biden once famously spouted Vulgarity and Uncouth language to President Obama after signing the ACA. It will be a game changer in Wisconsin and will help the Department of Revenue collect more income taxes to help pay for things and it is years down the road. Do the republicans and democrats have to scrutinize anything that will go through the much aligned WEDC (and its predessor department) you bet. That pseudo agency has never worked well prior to Walker and during his time in office it deserves the scrutiny that it has gotten and needs to continue to be auditted.
